AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Was thinking about a 3900x, but in the long run i think i'm just tempted to upgrade for the sake of something new. I have 3600mhz ram that my 2700x absolutely hates and i generally keep it around 3000mhz. A 3900x is more likely to run it at max speeds i suppose but not sure what that would do for performance, barely noticable gains im guessing?

Some with a ryzwn system will come along to answer you soon, but from the tonnes of information ive read and watched, getting your memory at 3600mhz and IF you will get a good chunk of performance extra.

Interesting how prices on here and flying up and down at the drop of a hat, from £419, to £429 and now £459, virtually every day a different price for a product that is in stock. 0_o

My 2700x is running well but not being able to run the ram at its proper speed is a bit annoying.

I am baffled with your system ram issue. Reason is I had a CH6 with 1800X for a brief period in April 2017 (until the motherboard died) and took my Ripjaws 3600C16 ram without issue by selecting it on the DOOP list.

If you use the latest bios and reset it, on the DOOP list the motherboard shows the ram with even or odd latency number? If it is odd (eg 15) like my CH6 used to do, you need to make it 16.

Use the thaiphoon burner to read your ram and export the file to dram calculator. Don't overclock etc just to read all your timings & subtimings and put them manually if needed.

I am pretty happy with the 3700X but my MSI X470 motherboard started acting strange after I was playing with ram timings.
At some point after restart it started reading CPU voltage as 1.65v both in bios and in Ryzen Master but HW Info was reading normal voltage. Temperatures were fine so I was sure the voltage reading was incorrect. Flashing to different versions of bios didn't help and it was like that for about two months then one day it returned to normal and it was fine since.
I am suspecting that when I was draining the water cooling loop I might have splashed it somewhere which caused the temporary issue..

The site bellow decided to test the impact of 2 and 4 modules ram and Single & Double rank modules also.

https://www.purepc.pl/test-pamieci-ram-ddr4-szybsze-2-czy-4-moduly-w-dual-channel

Some gaming results are baffling to day the least. Few games show 6-7% higher FPS.

I don't understand why but I'm glad I have 4 ram modules - originally I didn't know that it has a performance advantage Injust did it cause they are rgb and I want to fill out the slots to look good

AMD Ryzen 3 3300X and Ryzen 3 3100 use different CCX topology

Normally AMD Ryzen products have dropped their prices like a rock.

These are really holding up even >9 months after launch.

Even now the 3700X is still at £270 and the 3900X is at £420.

The 1700/1700X and 2700X fell far more quickly.

I'm also really tempted. But I'm hoping to hold out for the 4700X or 4900X. The delay to September has scuppered things a bit.

That's still a £60-£80 drop for the 3700x/3900x though as you can get the 3900x below £400, and it'll go down again just before the 4000 launch

£60 to £80 is nothing. Chips like the 2700X plummeted way more in percentage terms.

It definitely shows up in AMD's average selling price. It is way up. The 1800X for example started at £500 and was near £300 in barely any time.

3900X isn't below £400 unless you consider a particular dodgy amazon marketplace seller.

But it's still a drop, and I've no doubt they will drop more the closer to the 4000 launch, something which you rarely ever see with Intel.

AMD are now more established and even more competitive against Intel than they were with 1000/2000 series, which were new entries for AMD so they needed to get noticed with fast and cheaper products. Now they are tit for tat with Intel, the demand for AMD is also higher, which drives up prices too.

the 3950x is currently selling for $50usd more than I paid for mine in December last year

That existed on the 1000 and 2000 series tbh. 3000 series has no competitor to price/perf so prices hold better.
When Zen 3 4000 series comes out and at similar MSRP with the 3000 series, then we would see price drops but not much.

I don't think these Ryzens where built for static overclocking.

It's like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

But also the PBO/XFR situation with these chips needs some work and refinement.
