AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

What did he say about RTX performance?

I don't know the original video off the top of my head, he got slated for his RTX performance perditions, this is a response video to some of those criticisms, its clear from it was one of the predictions he made was that the RTX 2080 would be 8% faster than the 1080TI.

That was bang on... so was the price at $700

https://youtu.be/CT2o_FpNM4g?t=42

RX 580+70% = RX Vega 64+15%, for a new RXI 680 would be okeyish, for now.
nvidia's new RTX 2060 is claimed to be faster than GTX 1070Ti (or roughly equal to RX Vega 64), but that is way before nvidia went to 7nm.

Actually he was bang on about EPYC 2, Ryzen 2000 and RTX, no one but him predicted the RTX naming.

I can't speak of EPYC 2 and Ryzen 2000 as IDK what he said about those, but a quick look at his channel seems to show he predicted the RTX naming around September, yes? If so i wouldn't consider no one predicting it as Nvidia announced the first graphics card to support its RTX real-time ray-tracing six months before that.

Maybe last few gens just didn't pan out from a freq/volt perspective for AMD, but this time they nailed it. So last gen they had to push the volts just to get the performance. This time, maybe they didn't need to.

Time will tell.

Who made the predictions? Just because there are signs with hindsight, doesn't mean it was obvious. Nvidia have used GTX for how long now?

If Navi does get announced as predicted, some people will equally claim it was obvious (with signs x, y and z). If it doesn't get announced, then AdoredTV will get the criticism.

The same goes for Ryzen 3xxx. It was obvious right? Even though Ryzen 1xxx/2xxx were both launched later in the year.

The initial claim has been that AMD don't launch anything big at CES.

If you're not watching his videos that closely then i'm sorry but you can't say he takes shots in the dark, he's made a lot of prediction over the last two years and while he's not always right a lot of it is and some of it controversial, he gets a lot of hate for it, especially recently for his RTX performance predictions which he got right.
Do you think shooting in the dark would get that right? he bases his prediction on a combination of insider leaks to him and a lot of detailed analysis, like a good journalist, something that's badly lacking from the tech press these days which is why he gets a lot of ####, he shows them up for how inept they are.
He's very good at what he does and he gets it right far more often than not, especially during this last year.

I have a feeling that AMD will release VEGA II to compete with 2080 and 2080ti or there about, even if VEGA is expensive to product they can still price it such that they make profit and much cheaper than NVIDIA. I cant see Nvidia dropping the price of the 2080TI too much without starting to haemorrhage money. They are using such a big die. AMD are all set to take both the lower and higher end market if only they get the price to performance correct. This time round its going to be different, a lot of people are not happy with what both Intel and Nvidia have done with prices.

I suppose its all speculation, not long left now.

I don't think AMD are going to go after Nvidia at the high-end just yet. They can't match Nvidia, the mid-range market is worth more anyway and finally, a lot of their focus is on low-power products for the OEM market which is where the real money lies. They're not going to storm the castle until they've conquered the low-lands and cut off the supply lines. 2021 for AMD going after the high-end seriously, imo.

The truth is that AMD's architecture GCN is not efficient enough and has never been efficient enough, there were benchmarks of Vega II still losing to GTX 1080.
With what mind they build GCN that CANNOT scale over 64 CUs?

Well according to humbug it was Jim, not that it matters much to me personally as like i said IMO he just throws stuff at the wall and sees what sticks, it doesn't take a genius to claim a company is going to follow the same naming convention they've used for the last decade or more, it's what I'd call a safe bet and a reliable source it does not make as like i also said he gets far more wrong IMO than he gets right.

They've both already been announced, we've know about Navi and Ryzen 3xxx for, what, over 2 years.

Haha, okay. Typical. It has been known for 2 years remark. All ready to discredit him once it does get announced.

He also just guessed chiplets. Was obvious according to you.

I didn't say I've not watched his videos that closely, i said I've not listened to what he said about EPYC 2 and Ryzen 2000, mainly because, as I've already said, in my personal opinion previous videos and what he's said on other forums and reddit demonstrate that he doesn't know what he's talking about and reacts in a highly aggressive manner when called out on what he's said.

Like i said that's my personal opinion, you're welcome to hold a different opinion, however as this topic is meant to be about AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) perhaps if we want to continue discussing the validity or lack thereof of Jim's videos then we should make a new post instead of taking this one further OT.

Erm yes, two years, In February of 2017 Lisa Su, AMD's CEO announced their future roadmap to include Zen 2 (link)

And yes chiplets were obvious as AMD announced, and talked about them, back in August.

Does your link also have specs of the chips being release, the price and the date of the launch by any chance? Or is that just trivial from the announcement?

Ok, you don't follow his channel, you said yourself you didn't know about his other prediction that i had mentioned, stating "from a Quick look at his channel" i don't think your knowledge of his channel, which appears to be very quick glance minimal, qualifies you to throw any let alone that much mud at him.

You're just another one of many who just don't like the guy for his dangerous skill and accuracy, its the same old nonsense of trying to get #### to stick to him for whatever agenda driven reason, you're not the first to invest this much effort into slinging mud at AdoredTV and you're not going to be the last, its just background noise at this point.

Whatever, its free advertising for him, once reasonable people look into it themselves its more subs for him. carry on...

If you are serious about using that link, then you should probably know that a TR2 CPU is just a 32 core EPYC CPU and therefore 'chiplets' were announced when first generation EPYC was is in May 2017. However I've got a funny felling you don't actually know what a proper chiplet is, and should probably do some research first before making yourself looking uneducated and foolish just guessing things and linking random articles on the internet. Lots of sites referring to the glued AMD CPU's as chiplets now it's a 'thing' when in fact they are self contained CPU's connected using IF.

What exactly are you arguing now? EPYC 1 is not chiplets, EPYC 2 is chiplets.

His link which predates EPYC 2 announcement apparently beat AdoredTV to it. Read his link.

edit:

Actually even that link doesn't predate the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3kGSbWFig4

To be fair it does predate the main video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4xctJOa6bQ

Either way, nothing about chiplets as we understand them today is in the link. It talks about Threadripper 2 only, which is just EPYC.

No, because that was not the original proposition, good attempt at moving the goal posts though. ;)

@Murphy clearly just created an OcUK account to discredit Jim. Assuming he's a YouTube tech rival on some kind of mudslinging campaign.

Yea of course i have, i just decided not to "discredit Jim" for 3 months because why not, seriously if that's your rebuttal it's pretty weak.

And that's why i offered you the chance to correct the assumption i made from my quick look at his channel, something you chose not to do so i assume i was right in saying he first 'predicated' the RTX naming in September.

Also FYI i can throw as much mud, within the rules, at him or anyone i choose to if they make their opinions known in the public space, that's what making your opinion known in public entails.

Have you ever thought that maybe one of many, and these people you think are slinging mud for his supposedly 'dangerous' skill and accuracy, may actually have a point, if I'm not the first one and if as you seem to be implying there is some sort of conspiracy going on to discredit Jim.

Perhaps the three of you should apply occam's razor instead of these complex theories you're applying.

Like I've already said if you want to continue discussing the validity or lack thereof of Jim's videos then you should make a new post instead of taking this one further OT, I'll say no more in this thread about Jim's videos.
