AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Heres the link for that bracket, i used one with my H75 for a while :)

https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/PC-Components/Cooling-And-Corsair-Link/AM4-AMD-Retention-Bracket-Kit-for-Hydro-Series™-Coolers/p/CW-8960046

Seems like they're hard to get hold of now, will take some searching, not available on OcUK anymore either.

OCUK sell their own retention bracket for AM4 CPUs, not as high quality as the corsair ones but still does the job in my experience.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asetek-premium-retention-kit-amd-am4-hs-04d-as.html

Will work the same for all AIOs using Asetek pumps, which includes all of the corsair AIOs.

Thanx guys will try and get a hold of one for my h100i GTX

Just a thought. Some of the comparisons being thrown around are versus the 9900K. When people are quoting the clock speed and IPC I'm betting that's not stock? As I understand it to get the best out of the 9900k you need to overclock it manually under very good cooling and get a good chip to hit 5.1Ghz.

What is the average user getting the 9900k to? Surely that would be a fairer comparison to the auto-overclocked Zen chips that presumably anyone can achieve?

Just curious to see what the normal user on 24/7 settings can expect.

Just watched a few YouTube videos waiting for a colleague to turn up, wow, the Intel advert money is flowing again. There's a fair chance Google are showing me Intel adverts because it knows my hardware fetish but still. Don't recall the last time I saw an Intel advert. Cringy "content creators" and influencers editing videos and painting up a mountain :p

Stock i9-9900K means 5.0 GHz single core, 4.7 GHz all core, or 5.0 GHz all core if MCE is enabled and cooling is adequate. There would only be a marginal difference when overclocking it since it has very little headroom (like most Ryzen chips). But yes, if not specified, assume stock.

If Ryzen 5 2600X is 80 quid, and Ryzen 9 3900X is 480 quid, that's the most unbalanced offerings ever.

no- its called smart selling . ANY PRODUCT IT BETTER GONE AT A LOSS... then sat on a shelf not sold! it wont be those prices in the UK Mind, NEVER IS! but should be lower. OEMs also cant ignore those prices !

AMD taking best of pricing from themselves and Intel... Market at Intel prices for New CPUs but offer extra cores for the same price, AMD style .

I'll list up Distribution prices of Ryzen 3000 when its launched . can keep a track of reseller difference and see if pricing is inflated

yeah av been looking at the 8 pack 3200 and 3600 and just dunno what way to go. will obviously need to make my mind up shortly.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £599.86 (includes shipping: £9.90)

£20 more for higher speed, least then you get to play around with memory raito going 3833hz kit !

or price of 8 pack 3600hz, Team Group 4000hz with RGB

I guess to get the best out of any CPU you need to push it past its stock settings. Overclocking it pushes it far outside its efficiency envelope. It looks like a great chip if left alone to manage itself, but every one pushes it to at least 5.0 all core, because it's so easy to do, (and they all reach it) then become disappointed that it generates a massive amount of heat.

It's easy to forget it's the same IHS size, yet twice the performance, and physical resources as something like the 6700k.

I often wonder, if it had have been constrained by something other than thermal limitations, yet hit the same average clocks, would people have been happier with it as a product?

I may actually make the switch back to AMD. My 4690k is starting to show its age (perfect hand me down for the wife) and I will probably just get the 3900X because reasons. I am excited to see the reviews next month.

Personally i'd be looking at the Crucial Ballistix LT kits, ~75 for 16GB the 3000 C15 and ~85 for the 3200 C16, they both use Micron-E, XMP works out the box on Ryzen, and they overclock to 3600+ easy.

Welcome!

I too am on a 4690K and going Zen2. It's been so trusty I think I will have to frame it though. So so many memories.
