AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

So the 3800X will beat the 9700k by miles in gaming?

I have my 9700K at 5.2GHz all cores when gaming.

I fancy a change :)

No one said it will beat it, let alone by miles. But if the 3600 is in and round then there is a good chance the 3800X is there and about. We will find out soon enough.

If you are on a 9700K just for gaming then there is no reason to move to a Zen 2 tbh.

If you're the kind of person who would switch from an i7-9700K to another 8 core chip for gaming I'm not sure an answer either way will sway you. I highly doubt it'll "beat it by miles".

(gaming) If both were free which would you go for:

Ryzen 3900x + X570 Gigabyte Aorus Master + 64GB Ram or
9900K + Z390 Gigabyte Aorus Master + 64GB Ram

If you plan to upgrade in a couple of years again, the 9900k at 5ghz will likely be faster in games for the next couple of years.

If you plan to keep the CPU/mobo/RAM for 5+ years, the 3900x will pull ahead because game engines will be more multi core focused due to next generation of consoles.

We don't know that yet, wait for reviews on the 7th.

X570 . but then cry when when intel rolls out 10nm z490 and ryzne zen4 with ddr5 x770 . as is always the case with hardward , but now things get tricky since we have competition. Market is going to heat up fast !

The ******** 'WHAT IF' We dont live in make believe reality are we ?? what IF 9900k could Hit 6ghz ?? What IF Zen3 will hit 7ghz ??

You get up on the wrong side of the bed?

We know the performance of the 9900K and it's overclocking ability.

We are still waiting for the remaining higher end zen 2 SKUs to be reviewed. With a stock boost up to 4.7Ghz there is a chance they could overclock an additional 2-300Mhz.

What's wrong with you  Maybe you need to chill mate.

Personally i'd be looking at the Crucial Ballistix LT kits, ~75 for 16GB the 3000 C15 and ~85 for the 3200 C16, they both use Micron-E, XMP works out the box on Ryzen, and they overclock to 3600+ easy.

was just having a little read about this stuff.. think i've found a winner and saved a few quid in the process thanks.

The other bonus of the Ballistix LT kits is the low profile. Even my ancient NH-U12P cooler has enough clearance for them.

i have a dark rock pro 4 and my current ram fits under it just by the skin of its teeth with the fan on the highest fin on the heatsink so that's welcomed news also. gonna order it now.

Ballistic LT memory kits any good then? I've got a MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC on the way and looking at their compatibility list it's not listed. Will this be an issue with the new CPU's, I'm probably going to look at getting a 3600 or the 3700X.

Compatibility lists are a crock these days. DDR4 is a standard, CPUs that use DDR4 have to meet that standard, motherboard design has to meet that standard. Ergo, if you have a DDR4 CPU then you have a DDR4 motherboard and all DDR4 is compatible.

The nuances come down to the architecture of the CPU, quality of the memory controller of the CPU and the motherboard's memory configuration. These factors influence how far the RAM can be pushed to extract the most performance beyond the baseline standard.
