I work as a VMware consultant for a large IT business. Whenever I suggest single socket EPYC based servers they look at me like all weird.

This, in general, doesn't speak well about their technical and job competencies. Either they receive from intel CPUs for free, or they are blind fanboys of the monopoly corp.

Midrange motherboards have gotten more expensive and less specified IMHO.

More like mid range has been disappearing and actual quality bringing things have been replaced by marketing trash.
Just look at current AM4 boards.
Asus has basically garbage VRMs unless you pay lot.

Well hot damn! The Gigabyte Aorus Extreme with passive chipset cooling might be worth the silly price.

MSI mentioned at computex how "Silent" their fans were; and that board is MSI's second top dog!

I used to baulk at the thought of paying over £100 for a mobo, times certainly have changed.

It's amazing what people will pay when you strap on an LED and put GAMING in the title.
Sadly, we all have to pay the price for this culture.

Hopefully the board cooling on low end x570s will have mounting holes so we can replace with something larger, then stick a slow, quiet, 80mm fan on it. Looks like some of the boards have the fan fairly low on the board, so with a little luck a replacement heatsink won't cause clearance issues with the GPU.
