*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

Nice for AMD to hold the top spot for a few days at least, before the 13900k releases.

Can't wait to see Zen4 with V-Cache destroy everything in gaming though, hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

What? 13900k doesn't support AVX512 so no bueno and RPCS3 doesn't give a crap about cache, that's why the 5800x3d isn't particularly good in RPCS3

So, hopefully we can get back to the topic at hand now...

Will all the B series Zen 4 boards be released on 10/10/2022?

Noctua is releasing a 'NA-TPG1 thermal paste guard' for AM5 CPUs:

Couldn't AMD just include these (or similar) with each 7000 series CPU?

Whats the point? looks like a totally worthless product to me with no benefit other than keeping something you never see "clean" A very odd product indeed.

I thought that thermal paste could get into the cut-out areas around your CPU? On the other hand, if you only apply a small amount in the centre of the IHS, maybe it's not needed? We don't know cause AMD haven't discussed it

I mean if thermal paste does get into the cut outs then what is the implication? 99.9% of thermal paste is non conductive electrically so other than a bit of paste might get in the cut out what problem is the product actually fixing?

Those SMD's are also covered in glue so there is no chance of a short.

IMO the Thermal Compound Guard is not a terrible idea, but unlike some other CPU socket accessaries its really not needed, but for convinience if you change the cooler a lot and like to keep a tidy IHS? Sure why not...

Its like somebody saw that intel have this bracket for lga1700 (which does actually fix a contact issue with the socket) and decided you know what lets make something for AMD just because.
