*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

As some have suggested, it looks like there isn't any benefit to running DDR5 @ 7200 MT/s on Zen 4 CPUs:

The tester is using a Ryzen 7600X.

The higher RAM transfer rate does not make up for the limitation of the memory controller running at a lower speed, at least in terms of the minimum framerate in most of the games tested.

So, you would probably need to use modules capable of around 8000 MT/s to overcome the latency penalty (estimate). I'd say definitely not worth it.

Therefore, most people should not run their RAM at speeds higher than 6600 MT/s, which appears to be the maximum supported speed on X670 motherboards.

How less effective will be using 1x16gb ddr5 5600/6000 for 7600x (later 7800x3d) against 2x16gb 5600/6000.i just dont want to pay 350eur (where i can get it) for 2x16gb cl 36 6000mhz

If I did buy into the platform would have to be b650e so have option with pcie 5.0 and at least 1 m.2 gen5
Absolutely if your going to take the plunge 650e will be the way to go. That board will then last you what 8 years and several CPU cycles.

With raptor if you want DDR5 then it’s the same outlay upfront except you’ll need a new board as well in the next cycle and beyond.

From that stand point buying into AM5 is a better prospect on the wallet.

Sorry, ignore that post. The guy that uploaded it faked the results. Not sure Teamgroup 7200 RAM is even available just yet.

Oof - £230 for the cheapest B650 motherboard:

@Gibbo - Are these boards expected soon?

That's nothing...check this out :p

US websites have ASRock boards listed too (due for release later in Oct). The prices look reasonable in comparison.

So the b650e board with 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 and 1 x m.2 PCIe 5.0 is £309.95 damn

MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI has nothing gen5 and is £299 lol

I'll pass on asrock my goto are MSI and Asus not gonna jump on any new platform anytime soon anyway

And wanna see what kind of uplift can get with upcoming GPU's on current setup

Some boards on the web are advertised as having 'USB 4 support' /next gen connectivity, but they have no USB4 ports, kind of a scam.

I thought PCIe 5 on storage was gonna be standard on B650 and up, according to AMD? Guess not
Fairly poor, think AMD has allowed board partners to much freedom with minimum specs on b650, would expect pcie 5 for the primary gpu and nvme slots then anything beyond that up to board partners. prices are pretty dire as well.

dont even get Debug Code LED when paying £300, just seems they really stripped them from what we used to be able to get for the same amount . the MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI is £299.99 and doesnt include any Gen 5

I think it's just the cheaper MSI B650 boards that don't have a NVME PCIe 5.0 slot. tbf, not everyone will be bothered by this.
