AMD Zen 5 rumours

1YsgRax.png

9600X: $269.99
9700X: $349.99
9900X: $449.99
9950X: $599.99

Would be my guess.

If true i'm $10 off on two...

Difficult to know.

You're right the article doesn't talk about IPC, and yet the slide does, but it also qualifies that with (1T) its as if it the slide was made by someone who doesn't understand what IPC is, qualifying threads is irrelevant when quoting IPC, you would only do that if you were including clock speeds which are usually different 1T to nT.
Some people use IPC and clock speeds interchangeably, which is idiotic, they have no understanding of it.... given the poor quality of todays tech journalists i'm going to assume they are idiots and agree its probably a combilation of clock speed and IPC.

It's interesting to look back and compare how the early rumours regarding Zen 5 panned out. In Paul's case above I would say it's not too bad, he got the right the bits about the cache redesign and L1 being larger, cores per CCX (although this was pretty obvious to anyone who follows this stuff this would be the case) and the front end being wider but his IPC rumour in terms of a Geomean was a complete miss and a big one as well.

Yeah.... not too bad and the IPC thing was inevitably going to be a miss, a lot of people who speak like they are an authority on this stuff are clueless and its so _____ annoying. :p

Asking nearly £300 for 6 cores in 2024 is almost as bad as Nvidia wanting just under £400 for the 4060ti 8gb.

I agree its a bit much and i suspect it may come down soon after if those are the prices.

But... my 8 core 5800X was $450, that was $50 cheaper than the 10900K and it was in any measurable way a better CPU.

So, $350, yes its another 8 cores, but its going to be very much faster than my 8 core, that however is not the be all and end all of what's relevant, Intel will have to compete and to do that they are going to have to be cheaper, i think they are going to find these prices very hard to stomach, they are desperate to get back to where they aren't almost giving their CPU's away and these prices aren't going to allow them to do that and compete.

I’m sure chips like the 9600X will end up being good value eventually but it’s just a shame AMD rewards the pioneers with 2 less cores for the same money as opposed to someone buying a few months later.

They do the same with GPUs though so maybe enough people do buy at the initial higher pricing to make it worthwhile.

The 7000 series currently fill the value spots. Come back in 12 months.

Am personally expecting the 9700X to be a straight £350, which doesn't seem too bad. Also for the 7800X3D to still edge it in games (at stock).

Well they are ~£277+VAT with no discount applied at a distributor, so you'll could see prices from £329 at competitive etailers, going up to £349-359, but it depends on how restrictive AMD are with the allowance of pricing support by making etailers commit to an MSRP at launch week. The interesting prices are what is coming end of August, start of Sept, for 7000 parts once the hype dies down, new lower MSRP's with 7700 at $219, X3D going to $299.

Those are high prices for such a mediocre gain over Zen 4, I'd expect them to come down quite quickly in the next few months.
I got one of these

for <200 anyway, had a feeling AMD would price the new chips stupidly again, and I also got this

recently for <300 because I like how snappy the 960GB one is.
Not sure if the pack date is same as production date? Thought Intel stopped making these drives.

Nice drives. It’s such a shame Intel killed X-Point.

Just because intel is having problems doesn’t mean we should welcome AMDs pricing especially when the 6 core is only giving 3 year old £150 intel cpu performance on multicore.

What 3 year old £150 Intel chip are you talking about exactly, but a lot has happened in the last 3 years. Also we don’t fully know what the performance of Zen 5 is yet.
