AMD Zen 5 rumours

Regardless of capacity, you will be limited to speed the higher up you go, its even worse with 4 sticks as the imc on 7000 and 9000 are designed with 2 stick configurations first and foremost, getting 4 sticks to play even at 4800mhz can be a massive headache, with the introduction of 24gb dimms (2x24gb kit) you may find compatibility on 9000 better than 7000 but regards to speed wise its tricky to say what you'd land on.

It all comes down to the cpu quality, only when you power on and start tweaking will you know if you have a ok, good or god like cpu that can hit high ram speeds, reviews of x870 with 9000 cpu's do show (2x16gb) 32gb kits can indeed run north of 70000mhz quite easily.

Thanks for that. So am I likely to face issues with 2x32gb kits? To be honest if I can hit 6000mhz on those I would be pretty happy.

64gb 6000mhz could very well be ok, but normally the higher the capacity you go speed does suffer a bit, my x670e hero with dominators at 6000mhz booted first time (32gb kit) with out issue, a modest 200mhz oc was ok at the oob timmings, any more and i'd get a crash so called it at that, weekend will be fun with the x870 and 8000mhz dimms arriving tomorrow, will report back and share my ddr5 8000mhz experences :)

Will be interested in results. I have time to spare as want to wait until these higher core x3d chips arrive. Hopefully more details will emerge on this by then. Thanks for the insight.

Is 8000mhz standard on the x870? Sorry I’ve been out of the loop for a while. Last time I was looking only the Intel Apex was capable of this.

Official x870e 1:1 ratio with 9000 series is around 6400mhz max, but unlike 7000 decoupling the ram clock from the infinity frabric clock does not impact performance like it did on 7000 series, there is not much point using 8000mhz over a tuned 6400mhz kit in the cl 30 range as many will say, only a very select few programs will take advantage of 8000mhz, me being me i want to find out and see XD

I’m interested in the results. I’m currently on x670e and 7950x3d, I’m currently using a tuned 64gb 6000 kit but will be upgrading once the 9000x3d launches.

look forward to see what you can achieve.

We can't fix anything but you can vent at least. Hope it turns out to be nothing for you.
Thank you. I might check out that thread. Anyway we're way off topic here. Thanks again.

Well quick update new board and ram arrived, i popped in the 8000mhz kit of gskills into my x670e hero (bios version 2403) and it worked at 8000mhz, infinity fabric clock decoupled so it would work but after 20s or so training i got into windows, ran aida64 trial and seeing just shy of 84gb/s read with a latency of 69.4ns, loaded up a few games, seem to be a tad faster loading and fps is 5-8fps more which i will gladly take, not sure i'll need the new board so may ask to return.

link to the kit i purchased https://www.overclockers.co.uk/trid...8-8000mhz-dual-channel-kit-mem-gsk-01363.html

I’m shocked it’s worked at 8000mhz. I have the same board it’s been solid since release, I wouldn’t bother changing if it was not bringing anything else important to the table.

When you say you were getting more fps, what are you comparing this to? What was your previous memory?

I was the same expecting post fail but nope, loaded docp, the ram kit is xmp but has old AMD profiles I guess, it should have been expo in bios but funny to see docp instead.

With regard to slightly more FPS, in destiny 2 I had a uplift from 138 to 144 at 4k, cyberpunk has a small uplift too but nothing major, that's from my dominator 6000mhz cl30 kit.

No seriously I'm battling depression, and I've had worrying blood results in the last few days. I've just had a letter this morning telling me to contact the surgery as quick as possible. They found 'anomilies' in my blood. But they won't tell me what it is yet. Sorry for being wildly off topic but I don't know where else to share it. Sorry again.
Hang in there bud, things are always at their worst before they get better

@LtMatt - Planning on jumping on 9950X3d but for now using 7950X3D on a Gigabyte X670E Pro X. I already have one kit of

G.Skill Royal RGB XMP 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 PC5-51200C32 6400MHz Dual Channel Kit

Do you see me having any issues running 2 of these kits at DDR5 6000 CL30 on my current set up or teh 9950X3D?

Worked a treat, really easy to get up and running. 4 sticks of teh above memory running at 6000 Cl30. I know little about memory tunning so no doubt my settings can be improved

Very promising!

Hopefully with more time and tweaking you will find maybe slightly better results even.

Are you not tempted with the 3d variant coming soon? I think the 9950x had a bad start in testing but things are looking much better now. I always prefer real world testing over YouTube.

Hopefully you keep us updated.

The X3D variants releasing so soon are very tempting, if they were not coming so soon I would go for the 9950x right away, now I feel I'm inclined to wait but then I think just go for it now

I ran cinebench r23 10 times to make sure the ram wasn't a fluke, but happily to report every run passed with no errors, I have my CPU setup with a 80c max temp in the bios but still I was seeing mid 44,500 scores with the ram oob but set at 8000mhz, will continue testing and see what I get.

I’ve been in this position so many times. If you can, wait and at least then you can decide with real comparison and have no regrets.

I’m not expecting too much over the current 3d CPU’s because they’re so good. Then again we might get a nice surprise.
