AMD Zen 5 rumours

I’ve been in this position so many times. If you can, wait and at least then you can decide with real comparison and have no regrets.

I’m not expecting too much over the current 3d CPU’s because they’re so good. Then again we might get a nice surprise.
Yeah you're right, probably won't be much difference but you never know,

The 9000 series hasn't really been well received compared to previous releases so I think there may even be further price cuts

just set 8100mhz with a infinity fabric clock of 2100mhz, pc trained ram and after a short time 20ish seconds the pc posted and got into windows, ran cinebench r23 and no errors and scored 45386 points, around a 1000 off my all time high score, so there is a slight penalty going from a fast 6000mhz cl30 kit to over 8000mhz, i dont mind too much as i rarely run stress tests anymore, games is where i have my focus on so will hop into a few and report back.

This looks very promising.

I’ve just ordered the 9950x along with an ASUS ROG x870e Hero and 96GB of Corsair dominator titanium 7000mts.

I’m coming from a 3950x and given what I do for a living it’s all about productivity for me, but it’s nice to know that things are starting to look a little better on the gaming front.

This is turning into an exercise in extreme patience! My case arrives tomorrow but my X870 choice (ROG Strix X870-I) is only available on pre order. I haven't ordered yet, Im waiting and watching, whoever gets it is stock first gets the order

Are you planning to do anymore tests other than Cinebench or are you just getting a base?

Cinebench is mainly used to check stability under heavier loads if it won't pass that the only option is to down clock the ram until it's stable, games won't nearly be as hard on the system so that'll aid me in getting numbers rather than chasing errors.

With work during the week, it's hard but will do testing over the weekend

Is this in Windows 11?
It is a new build so Im in 2 minds whether to go Win10 or Win 11, will wait for the benchies on 24H2 and the new BIOS and see I guess.

Im looking at ordering RAM - X670 used to be happy with either XMP or EXPO, is that still the case with X870 or do I just need to go with EXPO?
Im thinking 6400 @C32 for my 9950X, or should I go for 6000 @C30? Is the sweet spot really 6400?
Im still undecided over 64GB vs 94GB, depends on whether I want to run with a RAM drive again. I guess latency will come into it as the 96GB kits are only C30 at 6000

Advice received with gratitude, I don't want too much heat as Im mini-ITX the the Ncase M2 will have a bit of room compared to some ITX cases

I have 8200 booting but took a bit of encouragement, oddly GB6 doesn't always ready the MT/s Speed correctly.

I've been waiting for about 6 months now, first for Zen 5 to launch then decided to wait on arrow lake as zen 5 was underwhelming, if that turns into a bust I'll wait on the 9800X3D.

The mobo is in stock! I have just ordered. :D
Just ram now, am I better off going 6000 @ C30 and clock it to 6400 or get 6400 and try and tighten timings? As I'm going either 64 or 96GB I believe there is less headroom to change thing though this will be my first RAM overclock attempt.

You have way more patience than me, though I'm still running my rig from 2011 so maybe I am a bit patient sometimes

I'd stick to 6000/30 if going for higher capacity.

I'm on AM4 so not terrible and I've just swapped out my 5800X for a cheap 5700X3D to keep me busy for a month or so while I wait.

Is it any better in gaming?
Slightly better more so in the 1% lows, I have my ram heavily tuned though which diminished the gains I think. power use and temps were the biggest improvements, around a 15C drop and 30w less in games.

I don't need 64 but could do with more than 32, i did notice they do 2X 24 (48GB) kits now, but the one kit OCUK have is CL Carrier Pigeon, i hope that's not a trend with these kits, looking for something 6000 CL30 or the low 30's.

I went with the G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 64GB PC5-48000C30 6000MHz and OCUK were doing 11% off so happy days.
The only thing left is possibly a fan controller but will see.
Im so glad we have separate bank accounts, Im 750 to 1000 over budget on this build, original budget was 2750 give or take 150 either way.

This time I am making a mental note to upgrade in stages as I go next time, rather than run it to the ground and face a huge bill 13yrs later.
The issue with high end builds is it is hard to justify a few hundred to upgrade for small gains. I have always struggled with that and have had to pay the price for that on this build..
