AMD Zen 5 rumours

But in the real world I mean who buys 12/13th gen and uses ddr4.
There is no way I would move to a faster cpu then gimp it.. the guy is right the 13th gen is faster there is no two way about it.
That's actually my plan. How bad the DDR4 hit is on performance? Enough to put it to Zen3 level?

Yes.

But why would you do that. I could be very wrong but I’ve seen people say the 14/15 will drop into last gen boards. This 100% will not be true with a ddr4 board.

Ddr4 and ddr5 board are not massively priced different. And ddr5 is now cheap and poo.

By buying a ddr4 board all your doing it looking yourself into one board and one cpu, assuming you getting a 13900k.

It’s an insane think to do.
£250 on a board
£500 on a cpu but I get to save £50 on ram so you know it’s all good…

If that’s the plan depending on what you have now.

£60 on a board
£220 on a 5800x3d
£60 on 32gb of 3600mhz ram

My plan is 13700k and 64GB RAM.
Alternatively a 5950x, take into account that upgrade is not an issue, I will keep it until it's time for a full system change and I'm on an 3770k right now.

64gb of ddr4 is silly, do you really need all that ram? If not 32gb of ddr5 would cost less.

Again 5950x why not 5800x3d.

We should start with the question what is your system used for.

In 2013 they told me 16GB DDR3 was silly, I'm having the last laugh.
The answer is both longevity and mixed workload between gaming and machine learning.

Trouble is that 10 years ago it was easy to "overspec" and get something with a guarantee of longevity, now for the same budget it's a bet on what will degrade more gracefully.

This is slower than a 13900k and at ddr4 the 13900k is on par with 5800x3d the 700 will be a tad slower. And if gaming is your thing the 5950x is again slower

What will be capable of pushing 60-75fps in 2030? That is my question.

So if you plan on the system lasting 11+ years, your going to start with buying 14 year old tech?
A top of the line DDR4 system is not noticeably slower than a DDR5 one unless paying a lot more between RAM and motherboard, 5950/13700k is stretching my budget to the limit already.

If you set on ddr4 would go intel

Why not get 32gb ddr5 ? Doesn't look like you needing the 64gb now for specific work load If you need more just upgrade it later on also prices should be better

Then 5800x3d and upgrade again soon then planned.

I have no info on the 13600 cpus but it could same you a bit and upgrade latter

Because decent DDR5 costs a lot more than good DDR4 and I need 64GB for machine learning (had I the budget I'd got to 256)...

If money is a factor it's better to go midrange and upgrade more often than high end and run it until it dies. You get more consistent performance too over time. Sell the old stuff whilst it still has value and move on ;)
