AMD Zen 5 rumours

ill hold out for the x3d chip, im not playing their silly dipping game
I’m going to hold out for the x3d too. Only reason I didn’t last time is I was building a whole new system, this time I think I’m just going to upgrade the CPU and my GPU.

Seeing as "should I upgrade my 5600/5700/5800 to 5700X3D/5800X3D" must be one of the most popular forum threads/questions/issues in the last few months, apparently it works :D

It’s probably because of insane graphics card prices. You can’t blame people paying through their nose for wanting every last drop performance for the money.

More gigabyte leaks

Confirm the new budget chipset is B840, it replaces B650 and interestingly it says B840 does not support OC. If you want to overclock you have to get a X870

This makes sense, the distinction between B650E and B650 has always been confusing and there's a large gap between A620 and B650, so hopefully the trash boards will get the B840 label.

Yeah agreed, the B850 has the same OC features as the X870, just like the B550 and X570, it looks like they simply changed the A_20 boards to B840.

Its all good, other than this E thing which is needlessly overcomplicated segmentation, back in the AM3+ days if a board had USB 3 it would simply have "USB 3" as part of the model name, E means nothing, you have to google what that means.

Hmm, x870 needed for EXPO 8000mhz kits, according to those leaks. Wonder what % performance loss we'll see between X870 8000Mhz EXPO (which presumably reviewers will use, as it's plug and plug) vs x670 boards limited to lower speeds?

I'm aware some 2 DIMM X670e boards can OC/EXPO to 8000 as well, though these are in the minority.

It’s not needed. You can hit 8000mhz on 670 and 650 boards. The question is if the IPC uplift warrants running increased memory speeds. The next generation of EPYC and more so Threadripper, should see huge gains from increased memory bandwidth.

That's quite a difference, I have my 7950x with 6000mhz memory, so 8000mhz would be very nice.
from the results I have seen 6000mhz vs 8000mhz is not worth the hassle. I assume the new cup with new bios will allow the x670 platform to adopt similar speeds more consistently and attaint higher speeds was not a motherboard problem but finicky cup's. I honestly don't see the point of x670 owners upgrading to x870 unless I am missing something? USB4 is not enough of a feature to warrant it.

I’ve just done hasty back of an envelope maths and 8-18c 16-32t should see a desktop uplift if the performance of each core is circa 25% faster.

Cynical rebranding of the A840A(not A840) as it uses Promontory 19.
MLID-LEAK.jpg

Promontory 19 is the same chipset used in the B550 and the A620A(not A620 which uses Promontory 21):

The A620 chipset leverages the new Promontory 21 silicon, while the A620A chipset is based on the previous Promontory 19 silicon, presumably the same one that powers the B550 chipset. Therefore, A620A is essentially a relabeled B550. A620 and A620A are almost identical in terms of features. The key differentiator lies in the speed of the chipset uplink.

This should be called an A800 chipset! This means PCI-E 4.0 for both the dGPU and SSD slots. By renaming it to B840,AMD want's to charge more for a recycled chipset from 2019.

This means the B840 will probably replace the current B650 in price, and the B850 will be jacked up in price to where the B650E is located.

Already with AM5 we saw AMD divide the B550 replacement into B650 and B650E. The B650E was the true B550 replacement as it brought a guaranteed change to PCI-E 5.0 for both the dGPU and SSD slots.
