I remember everywhere selling out pretty frequently.
AM5 only started outselling AM4...15 months after the launch of AM5 (mindfactory)
bear in mind that this is motherboard sales, 1 AM5 mobo sale = 1 AM5 CPU (or close enough to), the inverse is not the same for AM4 given the abundance of AM4 in the wild already
or that microcentre was giving away ddr5 as part of a AM5 purchase promo?

Microcenter is making it a bit less painful to jump to AM5. Buy a Ryzen 7 or 9 of the 7000 series and get 32GB of DDR5-5600 for free. It appears the usual deal of a $20 discount also still applies when you buy a compatible motherboard too. I also got some coupon codes for local purchase of 1TB...

AMD were slow with the affordable boards with AM4 too, seems to be a 'thing'.
AM4 is mentally successful though.
AMD don’t make motherboards.
still doesn't detract from the fact that AM5's launch was poorer than expected (not through AMD's fault mind)
But they do make the shoes.
and the el-cheapo boards are still...el-cheapo and only fit to run the lowest tier cpus lol

Ah, you’re talking the DIY console market then. Zen4 sales have been very strong.

Am5 sales were extremely slow at the start, so slow that many large retailers in the US were offering free memory, store credit, vouchers and other free items for buying an am5 board and cpu to clear their over stock
A lot of the poor AM5 sales was AMDs own fault. When AM5 and Ryzen 7000 launched, there was almost no reason for a gamer to buy in - the gaming performance was no better than a 5800x3d, ddr5 memory was double the price of ddr4 and why would you buy a new motherboard when you get the same game performance with your existing am4 and a 5800x3d

Yeah and retailers struggled with over stock after the Covid boom.

It’ll be the same story with the vanilla zen5 chips if they price them to high out of the gate as zen 4 X3D are quite cheap now and will probably end up a bit better for gaming while those looking to spend the extra premium will likely be holding out for the Zen5 X3D anyway.
