AMD Zen 6 rumours

Gonna take something special for me to want to upgrade tbh. Which probably means skipping a gen or two, though I’ll probably end up changing anyway just because.
 
I get it with gpu, but CPU’s not so much, though in this gen I’ve already gone 7700 - 78003d - 98003d. But the last one was an accident, I just enjoyed the chase and then thought well may as well checkout now I got it.
First cpu was always temporarily until the 3d chips came out.

I find CPUs more interesting than GPUs atm. In almost any game I can make myself CPU-bound using optimised settings and DLSS. The 10800X3D is a day one purchase for me.

I have a 5800X, Zen 3, i hope by the time Zen 6 is out RAM prices are back to normal, should be about a 60% gain in gaming for me.

It is all stacking up. I was prepared to skip AM5 and wait until AM6, but if they really are extending AM5 another gen to Zen 7, then I'll probably reconsider.

Plus god knows what will happen with DDR6 adoption, no doubt be hoovered up by datacenters for a good while, not to mention CAMM2, will that be coming to consumer desktop and how will that go supply/capacity/cost wise. So that may take time to settle down, and by the time the platform has matured it will be 2030 before the next upgrade!

are you really on that? You could upgrade the cpu to Xeon x5675 for like £10 pounds give you six cores and overclocks to 4.00ghz+ very easily and you will get a nice bump in performance it will make the system more responsive and when you get zen6 it will still be a little bump in performance. :D

Yep, i really am still on it :D I did think of dropping in the 6 core several years ago but never got round to it,

i'll just leave it as it is until Zen6 as i've no plans to play any games until GTA 6 gets released for PC, So probably late 2027 the way things look, Hopefully RAM prices will be better by then as well

That is/has been the expected progression.
AM5 getting another gen is only a rumour doing the rounds since late last year, nothing confirmed or official from AMD. So take with a heavy pinch of salt.
The supposed rationale is concerns over DDR6 availability, competition for supply, pricing and priority.

As Zen 7 is still some 3+ years away, we won't get anything concrete/official for while.
Considering how AMD can chop and change IP for niche products, some kernel of info could easily have been misconstrued from something that was never a consumer product.

DDR6 isn't available until 2027 and even then it will be server only for the first year or so.

Unless Zen 6 is 2 or more years away it will be DDR5.

If the 9850 and upcoming x3d2 work out for AMD then I'd imagine they could do something similar with zen6 and extend it's lifespan and in doing so give more time for Zen7/ddr6

Depends what you mean by fail, but DDR6 will really push APUs performance and allow for immense core counts. People are predicting speeds of 20,000 MTs plus which is bonkers. Imagine the DDR6 replacement of stix halo…

That said, we could be at war before even Zen 6 arrives.

Desktop Zen 7 + AM6 with DDR6 would sell terribly IF.... and it's a big if, things are as bad as they are now when it goes on sale. If you think DDR5 is poorly priced, imagine that plus the fact DDR6 will be new. 32GB DDR6 would be £800+ easily. It's a complete non-starter. AMD wouldn't sell into such a market. Of course this is the worst case scenario and zen 7 is a long way away at this point.
