*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Theres a video on their facebook showing it running sniper elite and some rendering demo's, not sure if this is new or not.

People saying 5.1Ghz on LN isn't that good. Bear in mind this is the 8c/16t (i.e. the equivalent to intel 6900k). On HWBOT the highest 6900k appears to be 5.2Ghz so not that much different

But it won't stop people complaining, a chip can do 4.9Ghz on air, 5Ghz on water and 5.1Ghz on ln2, or 4Ghz air, 5Ghz water and 8 Ghz LN2, or basically any combination.

Most importantly, if you won't be using LN2, LN2 overclocks are entirely worthless, as it tells you absolutely nothing about air/water overclocks, they can be literally 50Mhz higher or 5Ghz higher than water.

Watch Goldfries video, he left the AMD tech thing and they gave him an 1800X, 3000mhz Ram, MSI Titanium mobo and a Noctua cooler to go and build and play with, apparently everyone there got a similar setup, those were the wooden boxes you see on Raja Koduri's twitter pic the other day.

It wont be long before you see game benchies for these and overclocks on custom cooling.

As long as it clocks nicely under water, I am happy. Needs to be at least 4.5GHz if it is to convince me to go for it this year. Otherwise I will end up losing per thread performance for more cores which I do not even think I need yet, but do want :p

Pretty sure though by 2018 I will have a full AMD system :D

Ha ha

I assume we'll also be getting new coolers to pre-order? I was tempted with a Noctua NH-D15 or maybe go for an AIO such as H110i and a new case, but currently nothing officially has AM4 support...

I don't for one minute believe that Intel will do it because they're too money grabbing but they could if they wanted to position 6950X against 1800X, 6900K against 1700X, 6850K against 1600X and 6800K against 1500 etc which would be great for the consumer.

But on water you won't get anywhere near 1.85v though.

yeah they could but i agree they probably wont. I'm the type of person that would be like "screw you intel why weren't they priced like that before" type of person though haha AMD can have my money ha.
