*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Well its brand new so bound to have some teething issues. If what was said earlier about motherboard manufacturers initially not being all that interested then changing their minds when better samples appeared they're part of the problem. Probably could have been in much better shape if they had got the thumb out.

I don't think they're part of the problem at all, if they'd taken that CPU we might have a lesser performing part.

Am I the only person not expecting an 8 core to be the king of gaming?

Still performs great for the price from what I'm seeing, it's still half the price of the 6900k remember.

Yup, and its utilising less power as well. Its an impressive cpu considering price and power.

I'm seeing massive differences in results between reviews on the same games.

It's a brand new arch, can't expect all games to make the most of it on launch day. Some reviews (on sites I trust) are where I expected them to be.

Might even improve with video drivers. Are there any reviews using AMD graphics cards out of interest?

So superb for productivity, more or less in line with the rather more expensive Broadwell E units.

Not so hot on gaming, lagging the mainstream i7s, and i5s.

Horses for courses - good to see that at least AMD has a horse for some uses now.

People want to use the best graphics cards, why would they be using AMD :P

Just skipped through the OC3D review and he seems extremely excited with the performance even though it was a bit underwhelming in the gaming section, and yet everyone already seems disappointed here? Have people gotten too caught up in the hype or am I missing something here. It is still much cheaper and still in the early stages for a new architecture. Not forgetting the 6 core chips are incoming which we know nothing about.

Yeah I'm seeing the 1800X come top for some Tomb Raider benchmarks, then bottom for some other websites. Definitely varies a lot, which I assume it just teething issues.

Well if motherboard manufacturers can't treat an early sample as just that then they need to take their share of the blame. Someone posted earlier something like 3 bios files for a board in the last few days, so it seems they're scrambling for release.

I wouldn't ever call Zen rushed given it was touted for 2016 :p

Because in the end its always the same - looking at some of the technical analysis from sites like AT,etc they are saying there is probably a degree of unoptimisation, and things like SMT hampering game performance is an issue - its pretty much the same with every single launch AMD does, its always "in a few months things will be better". Its like the RX480 launch and its crap cooler.

Look at all the last minute problems with the motherboards,RAM speeds, etc?? Even if Ryzen gets better with updates to software, microcode and motherboard BIOSes,first impressions count.

This first impression is hit and miss.

It makes me worried Vega will now be more of the same.

Well, I'm sold!

Unless Intel pull something out of the bag before June, my upgrade will be to Ryzen (1700 + x370 and hope to get a good clocker).

Welcome back AMD, we've missed you.
