*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Awww yiiissss!! Can i please have my 1800X and Asus board now please?

Meh..... i'm not so sure now, its seems that clock for clock core for core gaming performance is about 20% down on Intel....
I expect them to get better when the memory latency issues are sorted. But if you're buying an 1800X for gaming, you're mad anyway :p

Seems like it could have done with a few more months in the oven to work out the platform issues. It's a pity that what look like very good CPUs seem to be being bogged down by firmware issues and bugs.

Perfectly happy. Extremely effective for productivity and competitive for gaming, there's seems to be some very inconsistent results in this section though and they seem to be testing games that aren't CPU limited....

Not sure if people were expecting it to be beating a higher clocked 7700k in all games or something but it's met and exceeded most people's proclaimed targets from just last month I think. Iron the chipset issues out and it's going to be solid.

At least this time it's using SMT in a similar way to Intel, instead of a bizarre (bulldozer) arch, that required big OS patches from the likes of Microsoft to try and fix it.

I'm happy with the reviews, OC3D seems the most consistent. It also shows when GPU limited the Ryzen CPUs have no trouble keeping up. I never game above 60 FPS anyway, prefer to crank up the eye candy.

As noted above in some games two websites can either have the same game looking terribad or competitive. This is just another "wait a few months and probably after some fixes things will work better" AMD launch. Its happened with their graphics cards too.

I know they need to launch these things but surely try and get these launched as best they can??

Basically I agree with TH:

"It's a bummer the Ryzen launch was so clearly rushed. We expected AMD to have a better explanation for its gaming performance, but all of the feedback we received from the company came very last-minute. It's hard to imagine these shortcomings weren't discovered previously and diagnosed more thoroughly. We're happy to put in the time and effort, though. Expect more information as it becomes available."

oc3d has an hour long video review. Though considering how much he rambles and repeats himself it could probably be edited down to 10 minutes.

It aint beating ivybridge in threaded games. Hopefully it's an SMT issue.

When the gaming performance charts appear...

Would really appreciate it if someone more knowledgeable could shine some light on why AMD would be so far behind Intel when it comes to gaming. Links to explanations would also be welcome!

Looking at the results, Ryzen had every right to be surrounded by hype considering they have been out of the game so long, it was just over hyped. Still a fantastic CPU for the price.

The gaming is nothing short of a let down.
But the performance is there, it's looks like a fixable problem.
