*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

It's sad that it has to come to that :( I may have to do the same.

I always buy here if they have stock, just for the smooth rma process with Bailey. However I'm going to be without a desktop system come Saturday and that affects work and pleasure.

but but Ocuk are the Alpha partners of AMD apparently haha

People were apparently expecting this chip to sodomize intel and pee on its corpse after setting it on fire. As of now the jury is still out considering the randomness of the benchmarks.

Its not even that - if it was another BD it might have been meh,and move along.

The CPU has potential but as TH said the launch was very rushed - Hardware.fr in their games test said the average regression was 10% with SMT.

So with SMT it would mean the R7 1800X would match a Core i7 4790K in their test suite,ie,the Core i7 6900K would only be 10% ahead. How could they not spot this after so many months of internal testing??

Its the annoyance at AMD doing another rushed CPU or GPU launch and underselling a potentially decent product.

Its like clutching defeat from the jaws of victory. Look at the R9 290X.

AMD.AMD never changes.

Although the stages have moved through to completion in about half an hour instead of a few months. I went out to do a job in the middle of a grief spin and come back to a chirpy content glow.
for a moment I thought about cancelling my order but having time to think on it I decided to carry on, I'm sure things will improve with bios and windows updates

Some very dodgy reviews floating around, I'm going to avoid being cynical and believe the reviews favouring the AMD chip in games, those differences in minimums could be a huge benefit too!

WHAT THE **** AMD:

You hit the nail on the head on all your comments. I really wish the Windows drivers were ready before we were given the parts to review. Instead we got a statement 24 hours before launch from AMD saying that they'll be coming in 30 days if all goes well. Game optimizations will be hit or miss when they come, but they appear to be coming. That takes time though and we'll see what happens.

I put it in the conclusion on the last page. The quote came direct from AMD's John Taylor. There was talk of it coming with Ryzen 5 and then they said 'in the next month' in an official statement that was e-mailed out last night.

What is wrong with you??

You launch when it is obvious games have SMT issues, and now this??

The reviews are already out there - this is the R9 290X MK2.

Yeah some reviews are all over the place. I guess its a bit like game reviews. Try and stick with a site you trust.

Speculation: sounds like AMD were happy for HEDT level chip launch to go ahead on the basis that the fixes would coincide with round 2 of reviews with their 4c/6c chips.
Typical AMD it's like they do the hard work and forget about the obvious things and let themselves down.

This launch is just painful - first if SMT was disabled gaming benchmarks would have been better and now we know the OS does not even support it properly.

I honestly don't know WTF is happening with AMD in the last couple of years.
