*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

So to summarise things...

Reviews are all over the place, for Gaming and even for non gaming tasks
You need to run Windows in High Performance settings to make the most of the chip
SMT is a hinderance until its patched correctly in windows, Patch due in a month or something?
Motherboards are still being worked on

So once the above gets sorted, the chips would benefit from being re-benched, something most reviewers wont do for whatever reasons, AMD has another stain on its release history... seems history often repeats itself with AMD launches :(

But i maintain the performance is there, definitely, just need to be patient and wait for the fixes to unleash it.

Hold... it has teething problems, some reviews are getting excellent gaming performance, IMO once all the issues are fixed that will be the reality of the CPU.

The thing is he plays a lot of FSX which is an ancient game and I'm worried he'll get terrible performance in it. Will have to think things through, can't believe AMD didn't have all these things sorted ahead of time.

Still no despatch email here either :( Ordered the 1700X with the ROG Crosshair

Got the same on order. called up to be told no more ROG boards. Tiny batch coming tomorrow and another batch early next week with hope of clearing pre-orders by mid next week.

Will be keeping my order with here though due to the 48 hour ASUS turn around warranty.

*tin foil hat put on me head*

looks like Intel is in bed with M$ asking them to delay the drivers for the chip ...

:p

Thanks for the info, shame that you preorder a bundle and end up losing out.

They have 2 more CPU launches coming, so there will be reviews and rebenches.

Yeah, the way I see it, there are bugs/issues/etc that can cause it to underperform, there is no bug/issue/etc I can think of that would cause it to outperform a 5GHz 7700K while running stock boost.

Chips look good and as bugs are ironed out will look even better, good work AMD.

ergh.... I could find processors for sale.... but no motherboards.

Pretty rubbish showing on availability for this launch.

On the performance side, I think it's fine, so not disappointed in reviews really... just that it's not there to friggin buy

Thanks dude. I'm pretty content though. I'm working really hard at the moment. Got Sunday off but actually I'll just be forced to chill now rather then tinker so its all good. I'm enjoying the anticipation very much.
