*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Ryzen code is already in the Linux kernel, I wish I could use it as my main gaming platform.

Be interesting to see (the few native) games benched on that with the latest kernel.

Very impressed with the results, the gaming ones seem a little dickie and off, but i have no doubt these will be sorted. Well done AMD!!

I have an 1800x and crosshair vi on pre order, I haven't had a dispatch email yet so is it safe to assume I'm looking at next week now?
I think its safe to say OCUK shipping guys will be working late tonight :p

tbh I'm in a similar boat and have pretty much given up hope of getting it tomorrow

Waiting on my 1800x and crosshair VI as well from OCuK but I really don't expect to get it until next week or the week after with the motherboard situation. Ah well it's disappointing but I'll live :p

Because you can't reliably replicate conditions across multiple run-throughs of MP benchmarking.

actually its pretty simple done it many times. you can also do multiple runs and work out the avg.single player is a joke of a benchmark in comparison.mp really does show multicore power if benched right.

the one thing really irritating me is that the people slating Ryzen were the same people who slated the RX480 on release, and now its performing much better and overtaken the 1060 in most instances they dont want to know.

the 1800x couple of FPS behind a £1000 CPU and they claim its a failure. Some people will just use any excuse to bash AMD and its quite pathetic really.

Got my 1800X shipping email at 16:15pm - will be stripping down pc tonight and getting rid of dust etc and mount new mobo/cooler to wait for new cpu for tomorrow night...

For AMD have done what they have done in the time and with the resources they have is utterly amazing - they know what is wrong and shelved those things for Zen+/Zen++ as what they have is a thread-monster. Intel can throw thousands of people onto polishing something and dozens into each motherboard manufacturer where as AMD (at present) cannot.

That is where the money is - they want to get back into the data-centre and especially into the cloud data centres with naples and beyond. With people like google/aws/ms buying 300-500,000 processors EACH per month or so they need to be in there. And if it hurts Intel in the HEDT market as well as XEONland too then so much the better.

And if Intel truly are playing hard-ball - ringing people up with threats and "advice" and cut-price-processors AGAIN then shame on them - the only people who will lose out are the paying customer.

Just got a 1700x ordered for delivery Friday from another site but no MB unless I want a sub 100 quid one...

I know Gigabyte put up their hands up for not stepping production up but as stated engineering samples first sent were aweful , so didn't put weight behind until amd pulled it out last min. Also doesn't help Chinese have their long holiday season just before launch !

Least he doesn't have to RMA the ASUS motherboard, by the time Linus would get it back the next Gen CPU would probally be around lol, RMA with ASUS is just as bad in the USA as the UK lol.
Actually regarding the UK is not true if you buy from OCUK. If correct, they have done an agreement with ASUS and they handle the RMA for 2 or 3 years.
If anyone from OCUK is around here, could confirm please?
yeah they do. It's like 48 hour turn around as well. Is one of the reasons that pushed me toward asus
Not feeling the love for Asus here; @chippy08 been waiting 7 days, but that's including a weekend so far >> https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/yet-another-reason-to-buy-asus.18717691/page-3
