*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I have a dedicated plex server as well as a day to day gaming/work machine. I am using plex less these days so I am going to sell up that machine and this machine, funds a 1700 machine which can do it all. Bosh.

and now its 17:10 and still no dispatch email. I guess being one of the first to preorder doesn't guarantee you'll be first in line :/

Got my 1800X shipping email at 16:15pm - will be stripping down pc tonight and getting rid of dust etc and mount new mobo/cooler to wait for new cpu for tomorrow night...

For AMD have done what they have done in the time and with the resources they have is utterly amazing - they know what is wrong and shelved those things for Zen+/Zen++ as what they have is a thread-monster. Intel can throw thousands of people onto polishing something and dozens into each motherboard manufacturer where as AMD (at present) cannot.

Nail on head there

the one thing really irritating me is that the people slating Ryzen were the same people who slated the RX480 on release, and now its performing much better and overtaken the 1060 in most instances they dont want to know.

the 1800x couple of FPS behind a £1000 CPU and they claim its a failure. Some people will just use any excuse to bash AMD and its quite pathetic really.

Suppose its better to let the red wine sit for a while before one drinks it :)

The 170 quid gap between the 1800X and 1700 is looking a pretty shaky proposition.

It's even more actually, as the 1700 includes the Spire cooler that can be used/sold.

I was just about to cancel my 1800x order and get the 1700 and manually overclock it and save the money and then got a email to say it has been dispatched. I have the CPU and some thermal Grizzly coming but no motherboard....... Wont be much fun this weekend without a motherboard. I ordered the motherboard 4 days after the CPU (from another website that rhymes with "van" and they have advised me today they haven't got any stock in today and are unsure when they will be coming In......

the 1700 looks to be the best value by far since it can apparently be clocked to run exactly the same as the 1800X

I am looking like the opposite will have two boards at this rate and no cpu ...so will have to meet up and give you a board :)

Try one of the lesser etailers - ditch the "van" and get into "area"'s - they have some showing in stock, collected mine this morning - but only b350's. p.s. they close in 8 mins so be quick

Or even try gibbo's old sun-exploding stomping ground

I know Gigabyte put up their hands up for not stepping production up but as stated engineering samples first sent were aweful , so didn't put weight behind until amd pulled it out last min. Also doesn't help Chinese have their long holiday season just before launch !
You seem well connected, any idea if any of the Gaming's have been delivered yet? @Gibbo

:) Ditch the "van" goto the "areas" if that fails get back in the van and drive to the "rain forest" if the forest is no good drive to the "sea see hell"

love these

Is there any more

I've cancelled mine unfortunately, guys. If it were for me and not a family member then I would be willing to take the risk. I have to decide now whether I will wait to see whether they actually fix the gaming performance or not and buy one then.
