*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Andddddd the madness is over for me. Just secured a ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS from another site that will come on Saturday which is a day later than the cpu but better than nothing. Not quiet the mobo I wanted but looks like it'll do the job.

I've cancelled mine unfortunately, guys. If it were for me and not a family member then I would be willing to take the risk. I have to decide now whether I will wait to see whether they actually fix the gaming performance or not and buy one then.

If he can wait just a wee while then do so then if nowt is fixed after say a month jump to Intel

I've gone with the 1700 as it comes included with a stock cooler.

From the reviews I think it is by far the best value. The price saved over the 1700x which you would also need to buy a cooler on top.

I hear the 1700 will go to 3.9ish. I mainly do video encoding and code compiling so it should serve well.

Finally replacing my 2500K. It has taken since 2011, I said to myself I wasn't upgrading until 50% improvement at a similar price point.

When that dispatched email drops in your inbox....

I'm tempted to keep my rainforest order for the Asus hero and use this ASUS b350 plus until it arrives and then keep this as a backup mobo...

The things we tell ourselves in order to justify being lazy, lol.

tl;dr Hardcore enthusiasts still go Intel (X99); Gamers that want best performance still go Intel (7700K); Gamers that have a low budget but want insane bang4buck still go Intel (G4560); Everyone else can consider the R7 (especially streamers).

AMD knew before launch the windows drivers would not be there for another month,so that means things like windows power control, scheduling, etc is not optimised currently and then there is the SMT issue in games.

Oh, that's not good. It's all appearing a little rushed. Still, issues will no doubt get resolved over time.
