*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Glad to hear this ....This M$ power management has always been an issue for any cpu speed-stepping ect great for power saving but usually creates high DPC ...

Lets hope M$ refine it better for th Ryzen chips

MS is slow -_- They still have to release also a patch to resolve the schedulers, which bounces the processes between different CCXs. According to AMD this is due at latest by end of the month by Microsoft.

Not sure if someone has already posted this, but 1700 Ryzen delivering a much smoother gaming experience than the 7700K @5Ghz.

True and isn't only the 720p but the 1080p video with the 1700 @3.9 vs 7700K @ 5Ghz
Also see here

It shows the Frametimes on the Ryzen CPUs is much better than the Kabylake one, even if the latter might have higher max on some games.
Hence the Ryzen video was smoother than the Kabylake.

Amd rushed to get their Avfs setup, like we all agree, they should have delayed a couple of months to get everything setup, tested and qualified. Considering they had this syatem in carrizo and bristol ridge the performance plan bug should have been spotted. Now you may think i'm over critical but look at the bugs, look at the lack of motherboards, look at thr bios patches, no hdmi2 on the boards. It's a last minute rush job.

On a positive note, scramz is having a cracking time
:)

At least people are getting to play around with it all now, sure there's bugs but they'll be ironed out

I'd buy today even with the bugs

If you look at most reviews, even ones where the Ryzen chip is underperforming for whatever reason, the minimum and average fps are usually close to each other. It should provide a very consistent gaming experience and it's nice to see that coming to light. Things will only get better from here as Microcode, Bios updates and Windows updates arrive.

Yep the smoothness is back..... there are a few other reviewers that have mentioned this .....

As stated before
What i would like done is run set benchmarks like the division run and get an high speed camera one that can rec the frames higher than the pc is rendering and rec both Ryzen and Intel and analyse the footage and see if one is smoother than the other or which one as more hick ups ..........I think AMD has the smoothness special hp sauce

Yeah man, the mt performance in apps is brilliant, and st performance is right up there. It can only get better, i'm so happy for Amd, just wish they launched error free.

Can people share what sort of idle temps they are getting at these 4ghz clocks? interested to see if we're all around the same mark.

So here is my Cinebench results:

R7 1700
MSI B350 Tomahank
16GB Crucial 2400Mhz DDR4
Notcua NH-U12S
EDIT: BIOS V1.0
Power = Performance mode but sure no different with balance.
Fresh windows 10 Installation

3.7Ghz @ 1.176v

3.8Ghz @ 1.224v

3.9Ghz @ 1.304v

4Ghz nees over 1.4v and the heat output rockets at 1.4v so on air I am not pushing that. Topped at 71c but I am not sure what these CPU's can take and wouldn't want to brick it.

Just to add, 3.65Ghz @ Stock volts Real Bench H254 5 runs with ease.

What should I bench now?

Trying to find my sweet spot, 3.7Ghz at sub 1.2 volts seems nice. Or should I just go for 3.9 @ sub 1.31 for 24/7?

I'd be interested in seeing results with SMT first on, then switched off as a comparison to check if theres an increase in overclocking and game performance. Also, is it possible to turn any cores off? Sorry about being ignorant with this, I don't know if you can even do this. That'll turn a 1700 into a 6 or even 4 core which might aid overclocking and might give an indication as to speculated R5 1600 performance.
