*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I'd be interested in seeing results with SMT first on, then switched off as a comparison to check if theres an increase in overclocking and game performance. Also, is it possible to turn any cores off? Sorry about being ignorant with this, I don't know if you can even do this. That'll turn a 1700 into a 6 or even 4 core which might aid overclocking and might give an indication as to speculated R5 1600 performance.

This too

I'm hearing that the 1800x has really high idle/load temps.

Anyone running a 360mm RAD ? I have mine sitting here waiting for my CPU and mobo to arrive.

No it doesn't, sounds like a Bios/Windows power plan issue. Running the system in High Performance mode may have an effect on idle temps, but this will be addressed with a Windows Update which will add the performance of High Performance mode to the balanced power plan reducing idle temps. Intel already have something in place that comes through Windows Update, we're doing the same.

Yep the smoothness is back..... there are a few other reviewers that have mentioned this .....

As stated before
What i would like done is run set benchmarks like the division run and get an high speed camera one that can rec the frames higher than the pc is rendering and rec both Ryzen and Intel and analyse the footage and see if one is smoother than the other or which one as more hick ups ..........I think AMD has the smoothness special hp sauce
Digital foundry are the boys for this job, you should contact them to do a mythbusters "Is Ryzen Frame latency smoother?"

Actually posted from the german website few pages back. It does show the frametimes in details across 15 games or so both in 720p and 1080p.
It does shows that it is actually smoother experience.

Just curious because Im waiting for my cpu/mobo to arrive :) The rest are here.

I think I also got lucky on the RAM and got single rank.

The board is an Asus Crosshair VI Hero and has a few similar 2x16GB Corsair RAMs currently on the vendors list

Mine are Corsair CMU32GX4M2C3200C16 Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16 XMP 2.0

What are you using to read the temps - I see quite large differences in various tools - RyZen Master s/w is presumably the most accurate at present ?

Sent done...thx for the advice

if no one does it may just do it myself i am sure there is cheap options for say a camera that can do 300 500 fps range or even maybe hire one ..

i would love to see the results

its been a while since I last overclocked. When overclocking, how do you allow the volts to drop down on idle? Which setting is it? Rather than a fixed voltage.

If you look at most reviews, even ones where the Ryzen chip is underperforming for whatever reason, the minimum and average fps are usually close to each other. It should provide a very consistent gaming experience and it's nice to see that coming to light. Things will only get better from here as Microcode, Bios updates and Windows updates arrive.

Yeah, I love the hypocrisy of people. For years now people have been harping over and over, " you don't need more than an i5", well suddenly people are saying you must have the 7700K. It's the better buy for all games.
Same people are saying games only use 2 cores at most, sure, okay, then why buy the 7700K?
Get the i3 3.5Ghz Dualcore at €130 and clock it up. Or what about the Pentium G4500 for €79? Just clock it up!

Why spend all that money on the 7700K then, if games only use 1-2 cores at most?
We all know those CPUs will chug themselves and gamer into an epileptic fit from the severe fps drops and stutter in modern games, never mind games coming out this year and afterwards.

Just called OCUK regarding my order and is held waiting motherboard, there's a surprise. Should be in mid next week. One positive is that my wife is not at work next week so will not have to worry about a missed delivery. Just hope she does not open the box and see how much i have been spending:eek:

With all of the processors available its very disappointing there are no motherboards
