It is a shame,My old Asus Q6600 board released in 2008 had a dual BIOS, which came to my rescue once.
I wouldn't buy a board without one, backward step from Asus, particularly in their high end range.
The MSI tomahawks and other b350 boards so far with less VRM designs are doing just fine ....Until further testing is done in terms of how much load is really passed through the VRM's re ryzen and how the power delivery system works splits ect for each Motherboard ....no one needs 10+ VRMS ect most of these are just the manufacture dangling carrots sales techniques...
But you can look at past sockets with 100+ vrms gold capped titanium alloy hard as nails designs and find there no different to running the same cpu on a 4 to 6 vrm design re OC
Now for LN2 ect some high end VRM designs are needed but then i would still question that .....its all about how it delivers and there is more too it then just VRM's
Just another way to charge more...
At the end of the day something that is complicated and so called higher spec can have more problems than say a simple design ...its simple for a reason ...
New Cars are the same
how true.Good post, I happen to agree with this. Think a lot of the features are marketing snake oil.
Am looking at various motherboards for Ryzen myself and can't seem to make a choice. I had originally decide that the X370 boards were the only ones worth buying for me, but, the B350 boards seem to be doing really good. Hard to justify the extra price for features that I probably will never use or like what you said above that aren't needed
Thats how my second MSI X99 gaming 7 died.... By recovering corrupted bios from backup one. All went fine reboot and... Both bioses bricked.... yet another 50 quid lost there.... I still cant belive that i lost almost 200 pounds on RMA of those ******* msi motherboards in 19 months. Due to shipments and selling backup boards with loss every time new one from MSI came back...Dual bios does always help though. I had a gigabyte x38 dq6 that had triple bios and it still managed to brick it self by flashing the backup bios to the currupt one without letting me reset the oc the corrupted the first one .

But i was stupid enough to belive it wont happen again cause how unlucky does one need to be to have 3 brand new motherboards die SAME WAY !!!
Well 3 brand new ones NOT FIXED died ins ame way. Working great 6-7 months i shot down my pc. Get up next day power button DEAD motherboard.... When i gotten 4th one from MSI i just sold the ******* thing since I had full system reinstalled on Asrock x99 that im running atm. And 7 months or so NOT A PROBLEM. Boots up runs great. So MSI boards a bit dodgy then?
Thanks a lot, i had a feeling it would have been the older style, if I'm not mistaken the old Xtreem uses 16 SKhynix ICs while the new one uses 8 Samsung ICs, if you could correct me if I'm wrong or possibly test the new style that'd be hugely appreciated.
also would you have any advice on that selection? (always thankful for a 2nd opinion.)
Sounds like you don't like MSI very muchWell 3 brand new ones NOT FIXED died ins ame way. Working great 6-7 months i shot down my pc. Get up next day power button DEAD motherboard.... Never touching no ******* MSI botherboards again. MSI X99 Gaming 7 worst motherboard i ever had seen and it was not even running any crazy volts or anything !!! Just stable 1.34 vcore and 2666 mems with 1.33 volts !!!!
Don't want to tread on my colleagues toes but if the board falls faulty within 30 days (DOA) period you're entitled to a refund or a replacement and should be given the option. IF it's what you want ask for it.It's looking like OcUK are trying to avoid giving me a refund and just sending out a replacement. God knows why I'd want another of these boards...
Ryzen : Success or Failure ?
