*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I thought HEPT was enabled by default anyway? Maybe I'm misremembering.

I think it affects Gigabyte motherboards??

This is what der8auer had to say on the matter:

der8auer said:
Just ban Gigabyte boards for using old AGESA and make mainboard tab mandatory for AM4 submissions. Not sure about MSI or ASRock but it's not possible to do this on ASUS.

But its blatantly evident AMD has rushed this launch - it really makes me wonder how things will look in a few months time TBH!!

I had some disappointment with Ryzen regarding performance in certain lightly threaded games I play, but after I looked over the updates I keep making to the review thread about new issues,it makes me wonder whether its the rushed nature of the launch which is somewhat hampering Ryzen - its like death by a 1000 cuts.

Agree
i like that "death by a 1000 cuts"

But i think AMD had to launch Ryzen for whatever reasons non of us will likely never know but she's here and she is trying her best and not doing that bad it will improve but 1st impressions do last with certain peeps ....

Not an ideal place for this but everything AMD is now being crammed into a couple threads, more manageable i guess.

For those looking at high core count server chips.

32 Core 64 Thread or Dual CPU 64 Core 128 Thread @ 2x up-scaling with AMD's Infinity Fabric, SOC Southbridge (No more Chipset), 8 Channel Memory (2x 4), 128 IO Lanes

No more Incrementing, Choo Choo....

Edit: Boom could you please change the title to add Naples? people have inquired about it. Thanks :)

I'm hoping we see some Prosumer/Workstation style single socket Naples motherboards and some low clocked 16c/32t SKUs at 65w TDP or less. Will make for a phenomenal upgrade for my home server

How are you finding your 1800X?

Stock BIOS, No overclock, RAM @ 2666MHz as I have 2x16GB sticks. Waiting for a decent revision of the BIOS to get released before i start playing. I'm spending a lot of time looking around the BIOS, reading up and taking notes so when the time comes i'll hit it hard.

Here's a quick snap of the PC as it is:

Looks very nice.

What's the general consensus on the best x370 motherboard now with the least reported issues? I've got a pre-order in for the Gigabyte K7 but that talk before about "Just ban Gigabyte boards for using old AGESA" has me wondering.

Good stuff. How is performance?

Just a note for those using prime 95 to test overclocks:
Note: Current versions of Prime95 (28.10) do not stress Ryzen CPUs properly. The resulting power consumption is abnormally low, and both Firestarter and Linpack result in significantly higher power consumption.

I've had my MSI Z68 GD55 since I bought my 2500k 6 years ago and from a reliability standpoint it hasn't had a single issue, so I'm still fairly positive about MSI boards. It's more the whole launch in general that has me worried, rather than any specific brand. The only problem I have found with it is a compatibility issue with newer graphics cards, so I'm still sitting here with an ancient card.

It makes waiting for Ryzen 5 even more painful; I'm thinking it will be another month before that CPU is stable, and by then it will be a bad time to buy a new graphics card with Vega right round the corner. Then there is the inevitable problems that will follow with another launch :P
