Good stuff. How is performance?

Not long installed Windows 10 so too early to tell. Long hard days at work, i'll play more at the weekend. I've overhauled everything apart from soundcard and GPU, so I've been testing out the Samsung 960 Pro nvme drive, it's silly quick.

One thing i will say about the 1800X though. It's popping up to 4.1GHz now and then (obviously just the odd core), just sort of does it's own thing nicely.

I've had my MSI Z68 GD55 since I bought my 2500k 6 years ago and from a reliability standpoint it hasn't had a single issue, so I'm still fairly positive about MSI boards. It's more the whole launch in general that has me worried, rather than any specific brand. The only problem I have found with it is a compatibility issue with newer graphics cards, so I'm still sitting here with an ancient card.

It makes waiting for Ryzen 5 even more painful; I'm thinking it will be another month before that CPU is stable, and by then it will be a bad time to buy a new graphics card with Vega right round the corner. Then there is the inevitable problems that will follow with another launch :p
Just use real bench it's stressing all controllers.

For me asrock Taichi fine so far and Asus crosshair totally fine.

Thanks for that, looks like it will be really great for amateur film makers on a budget.

Perfect for me really. ;)

I do a lot of video editing, and transcoding. Polaris is a damn beast in it a well, where the RX 480 beats everything but the Titan X Pascal.

If I didn't have my x99 system right now, I'd be all over Ryzen. The price to performance just can't be beat!

What are the stock voltages of the different chips? I'm tempted to get one but don't want to pay for 1800X if it's just an overvolted 1700.

I would be interested in this also, is there a correlation between stock voltage and max overclock depending on the chip used? Time will tell i guess once motherboard manufacturers catch up, it seems they wrote amd off with early(sample) processors and are now in a state of panick realising they messed up, its a shame as i believe they are on to a winner with ryzen.

What's the difference between the Gigabyte AX370 Gaming 5 and the Gaming K7?

I just ordered the Gaming K7, it was only £10 more than the Gaming 5.

Doesn't look like PPro is particularly well optimised for more than 4 cores looking at those results? I have no idea about the software, but the fact even Intel's 10 core isn't pulling a significant lead over the 8 and 4 core chips suggests a software issue, or certainly parts of it can't use multiple cores effectively.

Nice deal.

The main difference, aside from colour and LED's on the IO armour, is it's got an adjustable bclk generator, like FSB overclocking in the old days :D

It allows for more memory ratios, so instead of 32x100 you could have 28x114, for example.

Adobe have been slacking on proper hardware optimisation for years now; you can min max though to get the best results; but Abobe need to get the finger out.

It's at the point where a Macbook Pro with mediocre graphics on Final Cut Pro will match or beat a custom built Windows system running Premiere Pro.

Ah okay. thank you.

Do you know if the VRMs on the K7 will be any better than the 5?

I originally ordered the Asrock Taichi but got a phone call to say that it could take ages for it to come in stock at the distributors so I went with a Gigabyte Gaming K7. They also said that the Asrock boards are so unreliable that they don't stock them anymore, they were just going to special order it for me.

I think they'll be 100% the same to be honest.

That's not a bad thing tho, the Gaming 5 is already sufficiently overpowered with 6 x 40A CPU phases. That's 240A of power...

The C6H is ridiculously overpowered with 8 x 40A phases :D

That's good to know, I've made a good choice then. Thanks dude :)

That is because Final Cut Pro is most likely using GPU acceleration more effectively, and if Adobe used GPUs more effectively there would no use for even a Core i7 6950X!! :p
