That is great, hopefully a lot of the bugs will worked out in the OS and BIOS by the time I finally get my parts for a Ryzen build. :)

Anyone have Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 who has managed to get RAM running at reasonable speed? I have 3000Mhz Corsair but can't seem to get it running above 2000Mhz.

Asrock Taichi supports ECC, and it works in Linux.

TL;DW:

  • Basic board overview.

  • [AM4 is a ] Great platform for Linux. If you are building a PC today specifically for Linux and workstation, its hard to suggest anything else.

  • Support ECC memory.

  • IOMMU grouping not the greatest, wait for patches.

  • Showed a quick GTA5 benchmark teaser. (!!!)

  • 1800X OC'ed to 4.2GHz, all cores(check description for validation links).

  • His 1800X-OC Beats 7700K(4.5GHz, stock boost) in CPUZ & but not in Cinebench at single-threaded tests.

  • Got RAM speeds to 3200MHz(GSkill Trident Z) stable on the latest BIOS.

  • Allows overclocking through PStates instead of OC'ing via multipliers and voltage. (Possibly an AsRock only feature?)

  • More overview of the UEFI.

  • More GTA5 in-game benchmarks. No comparison, but FPS at a rock-solid 130-140+, dipping to 90-100 only a few times.

  • New platform, new software therefore rough around the edges. Should be normal eventually.

  • Great platform for parallel computing and workloads which require 8 cores.

  • For single core workloads or apps which aren't heavily multi-threaded, it will not beat a 5GHz Quad Core(7700K).

It depends on what you are doing with it and what games you play. I would say you need to have a good look around at what games are affected and what engine they are on and then you can compare.

If you are doing anything else I would say stick to W10 anyways.

Further to that it will be more of a pain going between OS really. If you have two versions of windows could you not set it to have dual boot?

I want to do a clean format with this new build, not sure which OS to put on..

Until Windows 10 gets updates to better support Ryzen is it worth going back to Windows 7?

Just wait a week or two - can't see that it is going to take long for something like this to be addressed - the performance regressions aren't so huge that it's worth purposely downgrading for

I think we need a dead Asus am4 board owners thread :p

Or just a "Asus AM4 board not worthy" thread... mine isnt dead, but can't even pass realbench at stock.

Wow lol. Which have you got? I think Asus pushed them out too soon, but asrock have held back so they don't put out a load of crap boards that need 5 bios updates to function properly :p

I think i'm having the same problems with my Asus Prime B350M-A board, using memory thats good in another machine, all standard settings and latest bios, it will crash out at stock speeds randomly... Looking to RMA the board as soon as I get my hands on MSI Mortar board.

I too having issues with the Asus b350 prime i have two of them here 1 form OCuk and the other from the tribe in the rain forest both boards having the same issues as stated above tired different bios's ect no joy ...Both boards not stable even at stock will be testing more today ...but by the looks of things both will be returned

I also have a MSI tomahawk and that is fine with the memory that will not work correctly in the Asus ....

I have a Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 (mATX) on the way that should get to me Monday, so I'll be able to play with that and see how it works with my 1700 and TridentZ 3200 cl14 RAM.

I think I'll run it with Windows 7 for a bit until more of the Windows 10 performance bugs are worked out.

Which bios version. I've been able to run my 2X4GB Team Group 3000mhz C16 ram at 2666mhz on both the F4 and F5 Bios. Didn't try the F3 bios it shipped with though

Pretty good video :)

The specs of the ASRock AM4 boards seem really good.

Will be interesting to see what 8 Pack thinks of the board
I am testing the X370 Taichi right now. Will post back some results hopefully later this week..so far seems a solid board.

Sorry, just to confirm is it the plus varient?

You would've thought AMD would work with Microsoft beforehand to get this sorted :p.

Saw this post on Reddit which may seem to bring up a good point about affected gaming performance as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5ybrxn/ryzen_7_is_actually_behaving_like_a_dual_4c8t/

Because the CPU is made from 2 CCX, it could be functioning more like a dual 4 core CPU, and Infinity Fabric is not fast enough to exchange data between the two CCX, which can affect gaming workloads due to the threads being dependant on each other. Hopefully Microsoft will sort the scheduler out to better know which cores in which CCX to use.

Which then makes me wonder... will the 4c/8t Ryzen offer better performance in lightly threaded CPU dependant games?

I'm using the same motherboard as my backup until I can get a K7 but it was a bit flakey with the corsair LPX kit I had and it wasn't until I threw in a cheap 2400 kit that it became stable.

There's a very good chance the 4core will offer better performance.
Although, even then the 8 cores are doing really well, especially in Windows 7. Up to a 13fps increase on minimums alone.

As mentioned in that thread it makes sense, given that's similar to the Intel Core series back then, which was the primary CPU spec for Windows XP and 7.

Windows 10 just needs to handle things correctly, and Ryzen should do better; and that doesn't even include SMT dropping around 10-20% performance in some games as well. That's a separate issue that needs addressing.
