An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Whereabouts in Imperial City can I cure vampirism?

EDIT: Nevermind I should've used search thread first.

Also having problem with joining thief guild, I got the diary but when I came back the guy wasn't there despite the arrow on compass showing that he's suppose to be there.

He's only there from midnight until the early hours of the morning :)

I heard/read that the others also level up with you so really it doesn't matter much at what level you are, there is only a slight advantage to levelling up in this game, in that sense it is different than say Final Fantasy where the monsters have a fixed strength no matter what you level is.

Ah cool, thanks :)

Also, am I right in thinking it takes a while to clear and close the first oblivion gate?

Depends on your style. If you like to be stealthy and stay hidden until you fire off your first arrow, then it'll take a while. If you're someone who just legs it through fast killing everything as he meets it, you'll get it done much quicker. Personally I stay hidden until I can fire off the first arrow to get the damage bonus.

The main quest doesn't interest me that much to tell the truth - I'm just loving doing my own thing.

I wouldn't say I'm not intersted in the main story, I just haven't started it yet.

Level 7 and just exploring really, it's so addictive just going from place to place finding caverns ect with some nice loot. Boosted by stats up with good multipliers so I'd better start the main quest really.

I'm level 17 and aside from doing the first part of the amulet quest, i haven't touched the main story either. I'm going to leave that until i'm level 25 and have to face uber monsters :p It's the main quest after all, and the sound of facing uber monsters instead of the rubbish < level 10 ones seem so more appealing :D

True...my styles changed since I found I hadn't leveled up - went from lvl 2 to 6, and discovered using terrain is great - leaping around boulders/ledges away from the attacker's level. Inspired by some quest where I went into a painting and had to kill 4 wierd trolls.

i have seen the videos of the chains in the prison casting shadows on the walls how do enable this on my x1800xt I have tried it with everything on full but still dont get shadows cast by the chains??

is this in xbox version only !??

Can anyone help me with finding the texture packs? For the distance "souping". The link above files are dead. Also any ini tweaks to improve would be nice, thankyou muchly :)

This is just a possibility but are you running HDR?

If not try it and see if you get the shadows.

Also on another topic:

How does this run outdoors on a X1800XT 512 running max settings (4xAA and 8xAF, bloom).

I am interested as I am thinking of getting it for the PC (So my X1800XT actually has something to do)

The landscape texture replacements are:
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2182
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2210

There's also a normal map for those textures available: http://www.vgpro.com/file/12222_LODNMR.zip.html

Good ini tweaks are available in the tweakguide posted by Dutch Guy.

Looks like nVidia cards struggle (for now)

Looks like this game likes high gpu clocks from the X1000 line compared to the shader power of the GF7 line. I'm looking forward to the 7600GT results, I bet it will be close to 7800GT performance.

It's not on any version.

They removed dynamic soft shadows on objects as they were too taxing. They were only ever shown in the very first opening video in the prison cell and Bethesda claim they never even had them implmented anywhere else in the game - that bit with the chains in the cell is the only place we've ever seen them.

They said the only way we'd have been able to do it is have objects that are fixed, with no physics.... I think I'm happier with having the objects movable and affected by the Havok system.

Sounds very reasonable, maybe in a few months they offer it as a patch as there will be new videocards released

in the video he moves the chains and the shadows move , hardly fixed objects?
