An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

There should be a note/letter on his desk, may need to stand up to see it (if your sneaking), possibly a letter from his girlfriend, not sure.

Thanks, I'll take another look - although I've found shopping lists, spell lists etc - must be somewhere.

I'm a little surprised by how meaningless the 'levels' in the game are. I completed the main plot and also became leader of the Mages Guild, and champion of the Arena and i'm still a lowly lvl13 Battlemage with a 30 hours save game. Great game though.

You can complete the whole game at level 1, all leveling does it give u cooler armour and weapons, but the diffulty remains the same no matter what level you are. I'm Level 23, and only just started the main quest... only closed two oblivion gates, just been farting around for 40hrs so far.

Now go and close an Oblivion Gate, then ask the question again...

I find goblins more of a challenge than closing gates. My thief rogue character is quiet easy to play. I do not avoid any enemies, I kill everything that moves. My sneak was maxed ages ago and so was my summoning. I have found summoning to be very useful as my minions can put out some high damage and have some useful attacks that slow down the enemy. When I get detected they are useful for distracting the enemy allowing me to escape. My strategy has been so effective that some of my major skills such as restoration and light armour hardly get used. The only way I can get experience in these, so as to level, is by letting crabs nibble at me.

As far as money I have so much I do not know what to do with it. You can only buy so many houses. So far I am finding it a lot easier than Morrowind but more enjoyable. I think I will be turning up the difficulty slider.

My character is also a theif/assasin type person (not so much a rogue), and I'm really regreting not having at least one school of magic as a major skill. I have a very low conjuring skill (11 or so) and am looking to increase it, along with any other schools of magic. The only problem is finding spells that I can use at my skill, and having enough magika to use them. Any ideas of how to improve conjuring?

Also, I killed a mage guild member whilst stealing the arrow of extrication for the thieves guild quest line, and was subsequently suspended. To rejoin I need to get 20 vampire dust (5000g if I sold to O.T.V.B) and 20 daedra hearts. I have the hearts after a lengthy oblivion gate crawl, but any vampire dust I've hard I've exchanged with the order of virtuous blood for 250g. Anyone know of a dungeon/place I can go to get my 20 vampire dust?

Is there a way of completing the quest for recruitment for the Dark Brotherhood without joining them? I don't want to join it, and I want to get rid of the dagger they give you.

Keep the dagger, keep the dagger, keep the dagger casue it gets way better when youve completed the DB quests, + it weighs nothing anyhow.....

I was the same as you Simaster i had low conjuration skills so i went to the discount spell shop in the market place and bought some basic spells and just kept casting them, took awhile but now im an apprentice for all the schools of magic.

What I did was buy the cheapest skills in whichever type of magic you want to level up and just stand there casting it, wait 1 hour (using the ingame waiting!) and repeat, levels up to 25 pretty quick.

But yeah just finished all the guilds and just done Kvatch Oblivion gate, was fairly easy until I ran out of arrows :/ Had to lug around 280 weights worth of those Dremoric (sp?) arrows and dump a ton of loot. Also got this godly ring for a warrior called Ring of War iirc.

Yes, it does, VERY worth it, VERY nice dagger once you complete the DB quests.

Ah ok, thanks, will try that one out!

But I don't want to join the Dark Brotherhood anyway at all. I have another character for that.

Well then just dont kill the bloke, thats the only way of not joining the DB, unless you kill him, join the guild and kill one of its members think you may get booted (not sure though)

The dagger is pretty useful for the mythic dawn cult section.
If they take all your equipment, they leave that, because it weighs nothing.

Remember when i did that bit i picked up the knife that was next to the book you have to steal. I freed the prisoner and in the confusion the guy that had all my stuff was killed by another cult member, retrieved all my stuff, Equipped it all and managed to kill everyone.

If you are unhappy with the level of difficulty, move the difficulty slider up a few notches. Quite simple really!

There are some gates that you can't just rush later in the game.(Unless you quicksave every 5 seconds)

Actually it was the opposite! The way things have worked out is that one of the only advantages my character has was his speed :p. Having to move the slider down feels more like cheating. Closing the gates required by the MQ gets a tad repetitive also.

And the only gate which caused a problem was the one where you had to ******minor spoiler******* escort persons..

IIRC it's on a table quite near the front door, on the left as you go in. Lots of people seem to miss it.

Man, I love alchemy so much. At the moment it is making me a lot of money which is fun!

Basically I go and buy out all the stock in a alchemy store and on the spot make up a load of potions (combining with other things I collect - everything I see!). I keep health and damage potions (some magicka restoration and some other goodun's like invisibility) and the other potions I just sell on. :D

At the moment I make about 1500gold profit for each excursion - whilst it isn't loads if you're skint it's great. Also by doing this I don't have to worry about merchants not having enough to buy enchanted weapons.

At the moment a fatigue potion gets me about 21gold, how much is the most you can get for a self made potion? Also what is the best potion around you can make.

And finally.... how do you kill Wil-O-Wisps!?! They are invincible (and I was using a enchanted weapon.)

make sure its charged, they are imune to frost ( iirc) but vunerable to fire, try using fireball spells on em

Is anyone getting a problem whereby the screen goes black while they're playing, i cant find anything on google.

I can still see the HUD and everything is normal, but i just cant see the 'world'. The best i can describe it is as if my character has gone blind. Not quite sure what is causing it, but its seems to happen more when i have Bittorrent on while playing.

Any help would be appreciated!

You're running an nVidia-based GFX card with HDR enabled. It's a known bug. Since I doubt you can change gfx cards, you'll need to turn HDR off and use Bloom instead. The visual difference is small.

Great stuff, found it last night. Gotta say the Pale Pass quest was great, and long too (where I'd run off into the mountains in frustration) - felt a bit like Indiana Jones! Levelled up twice doing it! Recommend it.
