An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

I showed my gf some of the video's and she was highly impressed, especially with the forests. She's happy watching me play games as long as there's a good story (plus she absolutely loves Prince of Persia), so she'll probably sit and watch Oblivion while I play it :D

Yep, no story no play. I have to be sure to 'involve' her in any game otherwise I get no peace at all.
We played through the Myst games together and she loved those, allthough she was utter rubbish at them :p
It's funny looking through the 'real life' window now and again...
While bumbing people off in slightly underhand ways in Morrowind I'd get the continual "Is that in the rules", "I think you're cheating", "Why don't you play fair!"
No pain, no gain I guess :(

I am looking forward to this game more than anything from the last couple of years. I have even gone and booked a couple of days leave from work and have just placed an order for a 1900xtx which should arrive tomorrow.

If it's half as good as I think it will be - I will be happy. The 1900xtx will also be a huge improvement on my FEAR performance as it only starts looking good at 1600x1200 with loads of AF.

I think she'll be shouting at me every time I kill a deer to get some meat :D

Deer meat pah, Will be looking for an 'M' they get everyone, I prefer my deer in the burger variety :D

Can't wait must do uni work so I can reward myself at the end of this week with this game

Im still not exactly sure which to buy it for as i got a xbox 360 and my pc passed the SR test for the game on Recommended settings with 1 or 2 green bars above.

The thing its going to come down to is keyboard & mouse vs xbox 360 pad, also them test may not show exactly what the game will play like, its all so uncertain

would they be releaseing a demo ?

Don't think so. It would be too difficult to cut out a small section of the game to release as a demo.

thought as much :(

it would definately help to chose which format to buy for tho, as it is now im holding of buying either as to make a decision

Wait for 2 days, see how everyone with a PC around your spec is getting on.

I am getting it for the possibility of future content on the PC version.

The keyboard and mouse combo doesn't hold as many advantages as it would in an FPS, as there are no damage zones in Oblivion (head shots count as much as a foot shot), so the extra accuracy you can get isn't worth quite so much. I'm getting it on the Xbox 360 as my PC isn't as up to date as I'd like it (though I could still run it), and I prefer the idea of chilling on my bed while playing it. :)

Davey is exactly right, there really is no advantage of one control system over the other, and it really comes down to personal preference.

If you get the PC version and change your mind, they have said they will add controller support in a patch so it won't be the end of the world.

I think if I had a 360 and a large screen, I'd go for the 360 version, as it is the PC version will run fine on my system and I have a very comfy PC chair :)

I do prefer mouse control but I played Morrowind on the Xbox with a pad and it was fine! I wouldn't let the whole Mouse/Keyboard thing rule your decision it isn't a twitchy game.

Having not played Morrowind I was a little dubious about the combat system, and I still think the swinging the sword looks a little clunky, but I will probably be a more ranged player so it does not bother me that much :D

I was a bit iffy on the movement too. Guess only time will tell.

For me the choise was easy, I really cant play with joypads, I just cant stand it after playing with the mouse and keyboard for so long having so inaccurite aiming with joypads.

plus Ive not baught a console since the old PlayStation days.

My first and only console was a Megadrive, and I only got that as the incompetent computer shop I took my Amiga to decided they couldn't upgrade it's memory from 512kb to a meg for some reason!!

Apparently the ranged combat isn't that great because enemies tend to just run right up to you. But anyway, the big swords might be quite clunky but you'll be able to get lighter swords too that should be able to do a nice quick slice.
