An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Right I'll try and make this a little more helpful :)
I'm doing all these shots at 1280x1024
The first set were all at maxsettings HDR no AA

Here are the INGAME vid settings

The first below is again at max. The second is just with all the sliders left but still large textures. The third is with everything ingame and main game options set off or low.

High
Sliders left
All off

I lost my position slightly for the last one but moved forward a bit to show the rock which pops into view.
The main menu vid options include 'draw distant trees' or houses, hdr, vsync etc.

I dont think you have turned bloom on have you?

Does anyone have any decent performance figures?

yes, if you meet reccommended spec you'll be fine for high details. If your running 2gig of ram a flashy dual core cpu and latest gen gfx you can max it? People have known this for ages, just no-one believed it.

Running everything on Ultra High at 1280x1024

AMD 64 3700
2 gigs of pc4000
X1800XT 512 card.

Runs smooooth, dont think ive seen any slowdown yet either. Game even runs well on older lesser specs, hope this raises the bar for all future game releases.

Last one for now, I think this is something closer to what you were looking at.
The lavender like plants in that earlier shot appear to have rather naff textures, the grass does look better and the more of it there is the better it looks also.

Took this with 6xAA and Bloom

That looks pretty good. But as with the previous shots, what lets it down is the lack of detail in the mid distance. The ground on that hill on the right of the other side of the water looks quite poor imo.

But overall v. nice.

1680X1050 WITH HDR ALL ON HIGH

x1800xt 512mb

2gb 400mhz

i get average of 30 - 80fps

seems slugish. even at lower rez and getting 70fps

EDIT ** maxed out + 6*aa 1680x1050 still get 30-80fps guess its cpu limited ?

To all those people who are dissapointed with the way the game looks, I think you may have let your imagination get the better of you, we all know that promo shots are taken at the best possible resolution with max AA AF HDR or overlay effects we all know the limitations of current hardware. I also think that Bethesda used a slightly sneaky trick, if you look back at their promo screen shots most of them have cleverly placed trees in the foreground obscuring landscape textures in the distance. Either way, if it plays as well as Morrowind I'll be happy. Btw don't expect too much from the AI I'm damn sure it will still have its own laughable moments :)

Enjoy it for what it is

Should be receiving my CE tommorrow???? :)

Gonna look at the gamespot marathon tonight.

Am thinking whether to get a Geforce 7800GS - am gonna wait for others to with this card to see what they achieve in terms of smoothness and detail. Otherwise a full upgrade might be warranted??? :)

Hopefully my copy should arrive tomorrow morning. I'll post some screenies of it running on my X1900XTX as soon as possible :)

A couple of things I've taken issue with so far
1: A change of res during play requires a restart of the game nothing wrong with that as usual, but it just tells you that and then leaves you in the menu requiring a series of exit? are you sure? then restarting and getting the splash again etc. I've been spoilt by Cod2 that does it for you :)

2: When running while moving forward and to the side the character slides sideways while running normally which looks rather silly

Sure there was something else,

On the upside so far the AI seems really good. I like the amount of banter that goes on while you walk around the city. The only repetition I have heard so far was from a palace guard, but then Bethesda had said that guards would remain a generic npc type.

If I remember rightly, issue number 2 was also apparent in Morrowind?
