An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

he he My raptor came today. So finally after installing windows and stuff I got around to installing oblivion. :)

It seems to be running fine on my system but I haven't ventured outside yet.

I'm just entering the sewers.Enjoying it so far but I have just been grabbing everything I can find.

must learn to be selective on the stuff i find

I keep getting my arse kicked as a mage, Ive got some elvin armour, a 60pt shield spell and a nice sword/spells. But still my arse gets handed to me. gahh I cant explore anywhere :(

Everytime you swipe with your sword, or whatever, step back, they swing into the air, then step forwards again and hit 2-3 more times, quick step back. Rinse, repeat. Works a treat for me, as im an assasin i don't have too much strength.

Welcome to the RAptor brotherhood myfriend, let the night mother guide us with out 15 second from desktop to oblivion load time. :)

Edit:

Incase any of you wanted to restart the game but not go through the tutorial again I have uploaded a save I made, this is just before you exit the sewers where you get the option to totaly remake your character.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nield123/StartFresh.ess

just shove it in "My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves\" then load the game and look for the save named StartFresh.

Card in sig. Positive it wasn't the threshold, that is 120C. Ambient also seems to be reading around 70 after exiting the game. Apparently the card at this moment (nothing running) is at 80C. Ambient is 55C. The extreme heat would explain why the PC randomly freezes and needs a forced reset whenever i play oblivion for 45mins to an hour. :(
what kind of cooling have you got in your case? ambiet of 55c and idle of 80c is shocking
maybe get a custom cooler for the card?
the Zalman VF900 has just been released, or go for a VF700... cheaper and probably works just as well :)

Yeah, many times Ive been reading it and picking up some good tips/info and its just loaded to fast :P Damn technology

Mine seems to crash every other time I quit the game so it's not that annoying but it doesn't look professional.

Jokester
same here.... everytime i quit the game i get the whole "Oblivion has encountered an error... send or quit" (something like that)
no ingame crashes apart from one lockup after stickykeys turned on (thought i'd disabled it :o)

How do you kill ghosts?? There is one ghost in the whole damn dungeon im in, but im stuck as i dunno what to use to kill him, ive barely got any spells. and my flare doesnt damage him at all. Any tips ? :/ Also.. How do i recharge my special wepons? Anyone know?
apparently silver weapons will kill them, but i've only tried with magical weapons or just plain old magic.
using Flare does work, but takes ages... try and save up for Flash Bolt (20 damage rather than Flares 6) and Weakness to Fire... (25% weakness for 30 seconds) they're quite expensive when you early in the game... but once you've done a few quests/raided a few dungeons you'll have the cash for them :)

as for recharging magical weapons... easiest thing i can suggest is join the mages guild and speak to certain people in the guild halls, they'll be able to charge up your weapons but for a fee (it isn't cheap!... the more drained the weapon is, the more expensive it is... if it has a 0/3000 charge rating it will cost 3000 gold.)
as for repairing them, you need to be a journeyman or higher in the skill of armorer to do it yourself. otherwise you can just take them to any armorer shop and they'll do it for you.

has anyone noticed that a lot of the trainers in the game are pretty low levelled, it seems most can only teach you if your a novice or apprentice.. not found a single one that is Expert in any field yet (not that i've noticed anyway).

what are you supposed to do when you reach Expert level in a skill? just build it up yourself?

there's a master trainer for each skill, so i you want to pay to get your skills trained, you need to find them
the experts will help you with that

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrr Bloody arena  just got to warrior status and now they all seem to run away when i try to cast lovers kiss on them. Really need to join the thieves guild so i can get loads of lockpicks im down to one so a lot of reloads when the damm thing breaks. Also need a horse lvl 8 and walking everywhere, sooo tempted to kill the guard and pinch his.

Minor spoiler:

Do a bit of the main quest and you'll get a cheap horse for free.

Yup - same for me as well. Don't think I've had a single crash in-game - just when I quit

I'm still amazed by the loading times. And also the fact that, despite the enormous size of the outdoor world, it never seems to struggle with 1GB RAM. I just don't get any disk thrashing at all - maybe a tiny bit when I first get into a town. Other games devs should take note

Tell me about it, i started reading a good one last night, said something like "If you start a fight with a friend......" And then it was gone, really wanted to know what it said

"... hold down block and left click them to surrender and end the fight without bloodloss" (or words to that effect).

Basically, if the fabbo Oblivion AI causes you to clobber one of your allies when they jump in front of you during combat, you can end the fight without having to kill them and incurring the associated penalties.

Loving the game but it crashes on me every now and then (on average twice an hour) and it's damn annoying :(. I usually get a BSOD with a reported error with nv4_disp.dll. Anyone else get this??

That one sounds more like a problem with your system than with the game tbh. Try updating Gfx and mainboard drivers and reducing any overclocking you have done. Just to rule those out.

Pretty sure it's a Gfx driver thing :)
