An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Seems to look better with HDR on (eg the grass loads in a sort of fade, rather than just appears when I'm only a few yards away).

You can alter the grass settings in the ini file to give a broader range of options than the in game menu gives

Outside and all the dungeons I've been in are V dark, and it's a nightmare having to keep switch to a torch then get attacked with no shield up. Think I'm gonna have to re-roll that class that can see in the dark.
What sort of character are you playing? If you're a mage/magical type see about finding a spell of light (school of alteration). Otherwise, sooner or later you'll find an item or potion which gives you the ability to cast a light spell for a fair duration regardless of class

Thirdly, I just can't get to grips with the UI and how to fight. I'm dying on just about every mob. About 4-5 hits and I'm running away spamming heals. Then drink magik pot and try the next. I also hate the way I have to open the journal to see any kind of stat.

Remeber to block. Go in for one or two swings, then step back as they come back to hit you. Then step forward and hit again. etc etc. Also try and get a few ranged shots in first if you can.

Just bought myself a haunted house with all the money I've manged to save and can't for the life of me kill the dude at the end of the "Where spirits have lease" quest :(
All the charges on my magical weapons have run out and I don't know how to recharge them.Is there an easy way to despatch this guy as I'm getting my ass kicked big time. I couldn't even run like a big girl as the doors closed behind me lol :p

Thanks, the replies Peter.

I'll have a look into the grass setting, is that in your FAQ?

I'm currently playing a Dark Elf scout, most of the spells I have atm, last 10-15 sec max. Don't know I'm I'm actually enjoying the class that much, doesn't appear to be any good at all thing atm :)

My fundamental flaw, I don't use block as much as I should. My bow skills seems to be useless, but prob need more practice.

Maybe it was just one of those days, after yesterday being V impressed and following the tutorial and parts of the main Quest. Today having a play with settings and stuff, and it just didn't seem to grab me in the same way.

Not yet, no. I've not had much of a chance to play with them myself yet, but I'm sure they're in this thread somewhere if you're willing to have a search.

Do you have any filled soul gems? If so ctrl+click on one of them (not sure of the controls for xbox360 version), and you'll get a menu come up asking which of your enchanted items you wish to recharge.

Failing that, enchanted weapons should damage the undead even if they have no charge, perhaps it's just generally damaged? Unfortunately unless you're pretty skilled as an amourer you cannot repair enchanted weapons and will have to take it to a shop to get it repaired.

Anyone been to thosewierd stones with the markings on, just on the cliff outside anvil? If you go near them and [spacebar] you get a wierd bound daedric helmet and bow - whats that about?

I've had special gauntlets before from one of those. And an armour and sword. Depends which one you visit. Seen quite a few.

been playing for a good hourish now and done some heavy battles and just became Arena Grand Champion (long live The Messenger Of Death! :D) and my temp is 43c... what GFX card have you got? sure you weren't just reading the Core Slowdown Threshold :p

Card in sig. Positive it wasn't the threshold, that is 120C. Ambient also seems to be reading around 70 after exiting the game. Apparently the card at this moment (nothing running) is at 80C. Ambient is 55C. The extreme heat would explain why the PC randomly freezes and needs a forced reset whenever i play oblivion for 45mins to an hour. :(

go to the arena and look in the cupboards in the area where the Bloodmaster is, each cupboard contains 5x light armor and 5x heavy armor... so if they run out of charge (since they're magical) or need repair and you can't do it or can't afford it just take a new one :)

todays CAD made me laugh... (rehosted and blanked out naughty word)

Ohh how true was attacking a bandit when a soldier jumped off his horse and ran infront of my arrow, got arrested casue he was a numpty and lost my silver katana (stolen :p )

If you find the dungeons too dark (like i did), adjust the brightness!!
I have mine at max, and the brightness in dungeons is perfect, having to carry a torch was a nuisance (and i keep crapping myself when they go out which makes a sudden noise).
The only bad thing about that for me is that i can tell day from night out in the open, without checking the time (can do that quickly just by pressing t to check, then again to resume.

Go back to the shrines when you are higher level... Trust me on this one. ;)

I seem to be getting better performance.. but maybe im just accepting a low frame rate?

I'm running everything on high with all sliders maxed out, 2aa and bloom at 1280x1024 with this spec:

6800
3.0ghz
512 (ddr 400 ram).

I'm getting some more RAM tomorrow which will hopefully increase performance.

is there any way to bind my sword or bow to a key? its getting annoying taking a few shots at an enemy then when he gets to me i have to open my inv and change weapons all the time :o

Hold the number button and click the item you want to bind it to, i have my magic in the 1st 3 then my bow, sword , shield, health potion, mana potion just have to hit the correct key to equip it.

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz, 512MB RAM, NVIDIA GeFORCE Fx 5900 xt

Has anyone got the game and has similar set up to this

What dose it run and look like?

Thanks guys

Well, judging by the threads in the official forums , the FX series run like rubbish and the game looks like rubbish using it :p

But in all honesty, i can beleive that since oblivion is heavy with pixel shader 2.0 effects whihc the FX series don't support...

Hotkeys are what you want. :)

I've just started over with a new Assassin/thief type character after killing a couple of the 'wrong' guys previously and screwing up a couple of quests for later on by the look of it.

Anyway, possibly already mentioned...
I decided to put on some AF in my graphics settings and I'm gobsmacked with the diffence. I'm running a A64@2400 with a 6800GT @ 1280x1024, 4xAA (both from the game's menu) and now 16xAF and to me it looks twice as good as it did. As you can guess with my card it does get a little bit of a workout in in places, with it dropping to the 15 fps mark at the odd time but it's still perfectly responsive even then. It seems damn stange that it's not an option in the game's menu for it!
