An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

This is good news, missed it first time around, life was too involved and there's no way I could live with the original graphics now.

The only ES games I couldn't get in to.

I think of it as the Windows Vista of Bethesda game: a lot of new ideas that didn't really work tacked onto a shell that was well past it's sell-by date. I played it for a few hundred hours, but that pales against the thousands I've put into Skyrim and Morrowind. Now a re-engineering of Morrowind...

I'm not a big fan of Skyrim, but I did enjoy certain parts of it and even return to it once in a blue moon. I'd call it a miss overall for me, but certain quests (Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Dawnguard) I really enjoyed.

Morrowind I'd love to see a modern version of, preferably with the option to turn off the training wheels I'm sure would be added in terms of quest markers etc. To this day it's one of my favourite and most fondly remembered games, ran like a pig even on a decent system but you looked past it due to how expansive everything was. I did play Daggerfall and very briefly Arena, found them so-so but they were a bit before my time as a PC gamer unfortunately or they might have had more of an impact.

Oblivion never clicked with me at all even though I was the prime target demographic, it felt off and while many lauded the visuals I always thought they looked weird, almost like there was a coating of oil over everything no matter what you did. There seemed to be some interesting quests (I vaguely remember a murder mystery type one I got on with) but the gameplay and level scaling on top of a bunch of other stuff ultimately put me off, I don't think I ever managed more than a couple of 5-6 hour punts and for a TESO type game that's nothing.

I tried it on Steam Deck a few weeks ago and it's pretty rough to play now. The new QoL improvements in the remake should make a real difference. I'm hoping it's also got the Shivering Isles DLC packaged in with it.

I've been hoping for a remake for years now. It was the 2nd game I ever played on the Xbox 360 and I loved it back then - I was only 15 so I don't think I really appreciated what the game was.

I played this on the XBox 360 when it came out and got the full 1000G's lol. I remember just absolutely nailing it day after day and honestly never intended to go back to it ever again - but this has got me quietly excited.

I don't think this will age well. Isn't there one task where you have to into every single demon portal to close it down? Regularly having to restore weapons and armour. There was some terrible aspects to that game.

wow brings back a load of memories - probably the last game I was fully committed to making mods for - was part of so many mod projects for this game back them (FCOM, EVE project etc). Not sure whether it'll sell well this time around thoughas it was the mods that made it for me

Two questions:

1) Are we expected to pay for this if we already have Oblivion? Since it was developed outside Bethesda, I'm assuming it will be at least £30.
2) Will there be horse armour?

It'll be interesting to see what this actually is, whether it's just a new coat of paint or if they've gone back and reworked some of the more broken systems in the game like levelling. I loved it at the time and put loads of hours into a single playthrough with all the DLC, I've never revisited it again in the same capacity though, only managing a few hours here and there. Sill, it holds a higher place than Skyrim for me with Morrowind being the best.

Either way I hope the hilarious NPC interactions are still in place:

My goodness I loved oblivion. It’s been long enough that I’d happily go back to it. I’d happily have a remaster using modern tech. It was such a huge leap over Morrowind.

It was also the game that revealed a critical flaw in the 7800GTX and cooked 2-3 of mine.

Edit: wait, this is on gamepass next week??

Supposed to be coming to GP on Monday. Seems an odd day though, normally it's Tuesday or Thursday for releases.

So are we expecting it at midnight tonight, 6pm tomorrow, later in the week? Weird having had no other mention of it, you’d think they’d want to hype it up at least a little.

As far as I'm aware it's supposed to be out tomorrow, what time I don't know and even the information I got was only from reading online that someone had contacted Bethesda support who confirmed it before taking their response down.

This, alongside a rumoured Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition.

My old school RPG itch will get scratched.
