Is anyone else really excited for this, or just me?

I bought a white unibody MacBook a few weeks ago but sent it back, I was going to get a pro but now I think I'll just get a 64GB iPad instead (possibly with 3G).

I mean, it can do most of what my laptop can and it's more portable, cheaper, has a better battery life, 3G built in, should be more durable and is defiantly going to be more fun to use.

I use my iPhone around the house so much for the internet, and a bigger more "deluxe" version of that is exactly what I want if I'm honest.

Anyone else feel the same?

No. Though only because I've used a tablet pc for the last 5 years ;) You will love it! Interacting with a screen directly is so natural and when you're lounging around on your sofa or in bed you won't miss the keyboard for too long.

Yeah, I do really want one, I just can't justify the price if the predictions are close, maybe if I hadn't shelled out on a TV, but then I wouldn't need one!

I ordered my 64gb 3g version last week when the pre-orders started. Obviously I won't receive it til the end of April since it's the 3g but I'm looking forward to it none the less :) I paid $900 including a case.

Lucky fella! I think it's only fair you post pics & a review when you get it. :D

It's literally a big iPhone without the phone, the iphone apps you put up with because its a phone but on a device that only uses apps, are there good enough ones?

Surely that will depend on what you want to do on the device. If you want to read a book I'm sure it's going to be very good, if you want an app for 3D modelling it's probably not going to be very good.

Actually, i'm sure it will be rubbish for most people for that. The iPad has some good features, but book reading isn't one of them. Comic reading (if you're into that) on the other hand...

Because the battery life is appaling and the screen just a standard screen. How many people read books on their laptops (or god forbid those things called netbooks)? Very few, why? Well i'd hazard a guess that it's not because they have a keyboard...

I'm very tempted by a slate machine for trips, however I just can't see myself ever reading books on it. After a few hours reading there will be no batter power left to do anything else, unless of course you attach the charger...

I personally don't have this big issue about reading from screens. A LED backlight IPS screen at a sensible brightness isn't going to kill your eyes.

Battery life as ever is a ball and chain.

I don't have a major issue with it either, although a lot seem to, it's just the battery thing thats the main killer for me, also reading in sunlight...

I just don't see how all of a sudden people will start reading books on laptop/tablet screens because Steve Jobs says they should. This isn't specifically aimed at the iPad, it is aimed at almost all the tablets out there, which all seem to be adverting themselves for reading books... The only exception I can see at the moment is the Norton Adam Ink, because it has a hybrid screen, which gives it a massive battery life for reading, however it, like all the other android/iphone tablets don't have the features I want anyway so i'd be unlikely to buy that either.

So here's a thing, does it really irritate anyone else that despite not having a UK price announced yet, Apple are using the 'at an unbelievable price' strap line on the UK site. Grrr, they've even produced localised images showing the guardian website but couldn't tidy that up or publish a damn price?

I don't think anyone is going to be reading a book for longer than 10 hours in one sitting, so I don't see a problem with the battery life.

If they adopt one of the up coming epaper/LCD hybrid screens for the next revision then we have something special here. Dont forget all the stuff the iphone missed at launch, the revisions really made the product come alive.

I will probably buy one to have a go ... whatever the price is it won't be that bad. You can always find someone ready to pay even more for a week's old used apple product in the next few weeks following a major release :)

PS: Assuming it is a winner! Maybe not ...
