And Lewis Hamilton wins his 5th Championship!

Fingers crossed, but Ferrari are looking stronger than ever.

Yeah, it's going to be very tough for Lewis to win next year or perhaps ever again as he may possibly have peaked now. Who knows if he has the hunger or energy to pull more championships out the bag.

But it's an exciting thought that if all goes his way for just another 2 seasons, that he could match Schumacher. I'd love to see that happen.

In some ways he should have already matched Schumacher. In a perfect world I believe he'd be there already but obviously we don't live in a perfect world :p

2007 - his inexperience and team infighting cost him the championship by the smallest of margins
2016 - his car reliability cost him dearly. Remember, he won more races than Rosberg that year

I'd love to see him stay to match the record and I'd love for him to have at least 1 season driving for Ferrari. Unfortunately, the latter will rely on Vettel leaving the team which I can't see unless he implodes again next year.

Next year is shaping up nicely.

Ferrari have shown very good form over the last 2 years and the dynamic of the driver pairing will be very interesting to follow.
And all signs point to RBR having a stronger engine next year with the Honda which will be a scary combo with new 2019 aero philosophy. Max may well be in the championship hunt next year.
I don't see Lewis going anywhere for a couple years yet.

Hamilton's former team-mate Nico Rosberg thinks the Briton could surpass seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher:

"He can really try to become statistically the best of all-time, which is unreal, and I'm sure he's going to be motivated by that."

What can Hamilton now go on to achieve? His 71 wins leave him still 20 behind Schumacher, but he is averaging just under 10 a year at the moment, so if Mercedes keep up their performance, both the German's records are achievable.

"Whether I have the chance to win more, who knows? But I am going to give it everything to do so.
I am here for a few more years, so I am hoping I can at least get close."

I think it is as much about how committed Mercedes prove to be when the 2021 changes pan out as it is about Hamilton. But he's certainly changed his tune after number 5 - now he's acknowledged that he's trying to beat Schumacher's record.
