Thanks for posting the pictures. I may have to put them in a large frame, or try and find some larger pictures. I had a quick look at the Geneon Website, they've got an Appleseed site now, with new English dubbed trailers, seems a shame we won't be able to see this over here at the Cinema.

How do you rate DVDpacific? been looking at getting Full Metal Alchemist box and it seems pretty cheap. I've been buying my imports from Amazon & PlayUSA was just thinking of giving them a go for a change/trial.

P.S.
Anyone with SKY, look out as Spirited Away is being shown over the Christmas period.

no-one mentioned legend of the 4 kings, or guyver?
there pretty good, albeit abit gorey(sp?) at times. good for 15+ yr olds.

im sure its been mentioned, but Cowboy bebop is ace, the jazz in it rocks, and it is very funny in some places, check it out!

Hi

DVDpacific are my number one US DVD retailer :)
Very good with their orders, great prices, good prices for shipping, very friendly and normally fast response to queries etc.

They are also I beleive much cheaper than playusa :)

There are five things to be aware of

1: Their cheapest shipping can take 3-4 weeks, it used to average about 5 working days, now it's nearer 14 :( (about 3 weeks total).

2: Make sure you read what the various shipping options mean - hold and combine, and ship what is available can mean they send you multiple dvd's at once in a single package (which can be annoying if you thought you were going to be under the customs limit).
If you want to be under the limit, order 1 item at a time and make sure to use "Hold till complete", that way they will only send items in that order.

3: They charge shipping by weight, that means a DVD + box will usually ship as "two items", and can with some sets ship as up to 4 or 5 (with the cheapest shipping it's $1.99 for the first item, the 99c for each additional one).

4: They often ship 1-3 weeks in advance of the official release date, i've had a couple of titles ship out nearly 6 weeks early in the past  (the exception to the rule)

5: They were hacked earlier in the year and a number of credit/debit cards held in their database were compromised :(
This seems to be long in the past now and their security is very much improved (but as with all internet/mail order purchases use a credit card for added protection).

The only other thing to watch, is that Funimation "starter sets" (Limited editions in other words) tend to be extremely limited and sell out very fast because of this (i think KG and Tenchi GXP were 1000 units each), so you will want to get your order in ASAP with whatever retailer you choose.
I missed out on the Tenchi GXP set (ended up with the secondary set) , but just scraped in with the Kiddy Grade one.

Sja360, I remember 4kings, it was pretty good (C4 1993-4 i think I saw it), and guyver wasn't bad either.

just remember not to get too engrossed in it and forget about cleaning the fridge ;)

I watched appleseed last night and was VERY impressed. Looks great and I thouroughly enjoyed it.

Storyline, action, effects and your typical anime style combat - Its all great.

Whats the difference between these starter sets and the normal releases ?

You get extra extra goodies. for insance the kiddy grade starter set included a kiddy grade bassball cap. and an artbox for the limited edition starter set only.
some thing like Genom's Whitch Hunter Robin starter set had an art box, t-shirt, shot glass, sound track, and a card thingy (cell?) which was only produced in short numbers.
Have a look at the Kiddy grade, Whitch Hunter Robin, Dot Hack Sign starter sets online and you'll see what is ment.
LC is still annoyed at self for not picking up the dot hack sign starter set when LC had the chance :( *crys*

Normal releases are usually either just volume one on its own i.e. no extras no art box, or volume one wih series art box and no extras.

me like Chrno Crusade, FM Alchemist

can't imagine buying them though, because only 4 episodes per DVD. At least 20 episodes of Chrno Crusade and FM Alc is 52.

Chrno Crusade I loved. Coz of the main character and the story. The final episode destroyed my week.

it's out in the US (and has been for a few months), it's out in Aus and should be out here in the next few months - assuming the censors don't have take too much offense with it ;)
The trailer was passed at PG here, and the Australian censors passed the full thing as an MA15 (the same rating they gave Azumanga 1:eek: which got a 12 here)

~Divine~Wind~ , as Lostcorpse says Starter sets are Funimations description of the "Limited Edition DVD + box".

Some other examples of "starter sets" or LE's include Geneom's Last Exile which had volume 1 in three varients, DVD only (standard release), DVD + art box, and DVD + art box + Alvie model + mousemat.

You need to look at the contents as some LE's/Starter sets have much more in them than others, the Full Metal Alchemist one for example has a tin box rather than the normal card, many of Bandai's ones include an OST (Witch Hunter Robin had a box, dvd, OST and a beverage container*).

I would recommend checking Anime on DVD for details on most US releases as they review and list almost every one.

The funniest extras in a LE/starter set i've seen have to be the beach ball in Wedding Peach vol 1 + box (it's a series about a trio of magic girl who fight for love....), or the "panties" in the Najica Blitz Tatics DVD 1 + box :p

*I beleive it was originally called a shot glass in early information but was changed to keep certain people happy (it certainly looks like a shot glass....;))

quick heads up

Macross, one of the best mecha TV shows of the 80's is apparently about to go out of print in the U.S.
Animeigo have confirmed that their licence for it expires on 31st December.
Unfortunately this means that it will then out of production and may never see the light of day in an unedited form again as Harmony Gold who seem to have the primary US rights for it* are loath to have it in competition to their heavily edited/butchered version as part of Robotech (I suspect they only allowed Animeigo the sublicence was because Animeigo then spent a small fortune on remastering it, the results of which can be seen in the current Macross release and the remastered Robotech Macross Saga release).

If you can and think you may like it, then now may be the last chance to get it legitimately for a very long time :( (I may be wrong and get pleasently suprised by HG, but I doubt it, HG have tried repeatedly to bury Macross outside of Japan)

I'm off to DVDPacific now to place my order, i'm just happy the doller is weak at the moment.

[edit]
i've just placed my DVDpacific order, £73 inc airmail + any taxes.
I guess my mp3 player will have to wait as i've been after Macross for ages and don't want to miss the chance to get it :) (I loved Macross Plus, and really enjoyed Macross 7 so i'm taking the chance on Macross)

*they claim their rights are in purpertuity (or at least until the series is out of copyright completely)
