ANNO 1800

I do wish that they had bothered to at least offer a decent pdf manual for this game, detailing some aspects of game-play that might turn out to be crucial would be nice to know about.

I have found in the campaign that the AI seem to take islands and settle of their own accord. I do get one of them asking me if he can settle on island, not sure if that is relative to my strength being much greater than theirs..? If I decline then I take a hit with diplomacy.
Perhaps for you it is related to the sandbox and the AI's you selected to play with...?

Got windows, canned goods and now sewing machines up and going on my main island. But I do know that I'm trailing some of the AI's, still fun tho.

Normal campaign difficulty? If so (as I found out on my first sandbox) you end up with two easy AI (who ask for permission) and one medium AI who steam rolls the map (Beryl seems to be a thorn in most peoples sides and will not ask for permission). Easy AI are very accommodating - they will often give you free cash (Bente and Qing), want to form alliances with you and trade rights (also Bente and Qing) etc.

Yeah, normal campaign difficulty. Ah that is Beryl gets miffed so easily. She seems to be one of the more difficult AI's on the map for me. I have somewhat given up trying to win favour with her.

How have you gone in with islands in both worlds, in terms of managing them and the trade routes needed...?

I know that I have complained about the need for a pause button but equal to that is a greater range of zoom...!

Yup, Beryl is one of the medium AIs.

I've claimed them with trading posts, using some resources given to you in the New World and shipping the rest there manually. Still some islands left to claim. The pirates are more aggressive though and I nearly lost my last ship.

Agreed, a lack of decent zoom is almost as annoying as the lack of active pause.

Well deserved.

I'm even considering investing into the DLC's, for another £20. No rush yet, but I do see some great potential in this game to have a lot of hours sunk into it.

I'll likely do the same.

I am just about to start moving all production away from my main island to improve its beauty.

As you go through the game there are more and more surprises with more and more depth. Easily the best Anno game. I can see my putting many hours into this for many months to come.

I was playing AC Odyssey DLC and Tropico 6, but it has completely diverted my attention away from those.

I did have my first Directx crash last night though :(

I wasn't able to play at all last night due to other commitments - I feel like an addict forced to go cold turkey. i've had the game on my mind all day so far - looking forward to getting on it tonight!

Tropico 6 has gone on hold, probably for a while as well. Cities Skylines has also been forgotten.

I have read about people who have had populations of 90k plus, that is amazing for me to consider that...!
My rather primitive builds so far are far too mixed with industry and housing types.

There has been some official feedback back on that DX 12 big thread that I created. Hopefully that will be able to look at that issue.

I have 6K so far upto tier 3 :p - not enough time to play this at the moment.

https://www.reddit.com/r/anno/comments/bjetzc/120k_inhabitants55k_investors_what_a_great_game/ - I guess this is my eventual aim :p

Hopefully they resolve the DX12 issue. At least they are aware.

You do until you get the commuter port (Tier 4?). It seems to lower the happiness though (who enjoys commuting to work).

Cool, that's good to know before I get stuck in tonight and make a barren work area on a new island! In regards to commuting, they need audible :p!

Could you tell me what settings and AI opponents you used for your Sandbox game....? Also did you use the pirates, and at what difficulty, for both worlds...?

Thanks

The three easy AI opponents (Bente, Qing, Willie). I have given them permission to expand to one island when they asked me. Currently my economy is around 16 and theirs 1-4. This means I have some life in my game, but I can play in a relaxed style.

The two pirates (who are the same regardless of difficulty setting) set on normal mode (not the hard versions). They often declare war on me, but a ceasefire is cheap.

All of the neutral traders present.

This is helpful too when choosing a map:

Thanks for that.

At some point (probably sooner than later) I might put aside the campaign that I'm half way through to spend some time experimenting and learning the game in more detail, whilst the pressure of some of the scripted demands of the campaign aren't their to distract me.

I'll also watch that video. Thanks again.

A modified zoom which seems to work fine.....

I just backed up the original file, replaced with the one downloaded from the link.....

...and enjoyed :)

Not bothered to use the one which adds 99 influence as well as the zoom option....
