'Anti' Isalm cartoons....

You would have probably been burnt for blasphemy (by some religion or other) for saying stuff like that just a couple of hundred years ago ;)

Nah, the bicycle was invented in 1790 but wasn't commonplace till the 1870s

The right to protest is a fundamental one in any democracy. If Muslims find ths=ese cartoons offensive then they ahve every right to protest as much as they want, as long as they dont break any laws.

Suggesting that agroup shouldnt beallowed to protest simply because you disagree with their cause is disgraceful. Its akin to saying 'I believe in freedom of speech, but only for those that agree with me'.

Absolutely, the right to protest, peacefully, is paramount as is their perogative to use economic pressure to achieve their aims. However, what they don't have the right to do is hound someone out of their job, attack embassies, issue death threats and ignore the laws of the country in which they reside and take up arms. What they certainly don't have the right to do is try and force a change in the laws and rights of a soverign nation like they are trying to do in Denmark.

I have nothing useful to add to this debate, however i would just like to point out the humor that is people using FACT in their posts. Do you think it gets the point across better, do you think it makes it more believable when you say it? If you don't say it should we assume your lying?

Its worse than that damn Intel jingle in their adverts. note to everyone, just post fact in capital letters randomly, as you are then full of useful knowledge and will be respected. oh and to finish off, FACT.

Somewhat harsh - How very dare you.

My original comment was genuine, and eloquently made.

Your point wasn't eloquently made and it was clearly intended to offend. Von pointed out that he found the phrase mildly offensive and you added to the insult by the facetious observation.

If people want to live without religion then so be it, it's their choice. However, just because you choose not to believe does not mean that those who do are stupid for being offended when you deliberately set out to insult them.

I took your bait because it illustrates the problem that is being discussed in this thread: I can understand that Muslims are offended by the cartoons and are even more irked when the argument of free speech is raised as a defence. In principle I support free speech (vive l'internet!) but if you were to use your right to free speech to call my wife a **** then I would be justified in being offended.

I am dissapointed (though not surprised) by all the language of hate that is coming from some Muslims but the fact remains that, although they had a right, the papers were running a big risk in printing something that would obviously be offensive to so many people. The right to free speech is to be closely protected but that right is to be exercised within the bounds of civility.

Agree with the first part - hence me including the caveat 'as long as they dont break any laws'.

But as for the second, i disagree. They have every right to try and persuade the danish government to change their laws, just as the danish government have every right to refuse. Its no different to the Countryside Alliance's campaign to legalise foxhunting....

Your post needed an Off Topic warning. FACT!

thw most worrying aspect is that the masses are being directed by an influential few....most of the protestors wont have seen them so they have no idea what they are actually protesting about..but they are told to protest so they do...they have no free will when it comes to their religion..they could have been told it shows their prophet having anal sex with a goat for all we know..and they would be none the wiser either!

they just line up get the matches and the flags and the banners and away they go

such control is the true crime of religion as it robs a person of his free will and logical thought

Why did the media even bother showing all this? Some guys burning a flag, some others saying we should kill the guys who prin the newspaper...ok but I am sure that most Muslims don't really have the urge to murder the artist, I hope it's a few fanatics that think that way. Many artists have taken the **** out of Christianity too (think of Monty Python and Family Guy to name a very few) but you don't see things like that happening. I am sure, however, that there are some ****ed up Christians that have a very messed up idea of what Christianity is all about, but who takes them seriously? I don't, and nor should any extremists be taken seriously, let alone having them on a the freaking headlines!

I mean, cartoons for headlines? Jesus!

Science has proven results, good and bad....Religion doesn't.

Well if it wasn't for my religion I would be a Turkish Muslim now, if you guys had been through what other people have you would have a much more higher look on religion. But anyway.

Well i've just seen the cartoons and i'm afriad i did laugh at one of them ('No more virgins')
I don't care, I have several good Muslim friends and I know they wouldnt mind me laughing about it. In fact i'm pretty sure they would see the funny side of it as well.

I just feel all these extremists running out waiving guns and threatening suicide attacks puts Muslims in an evern worse light. It's making them look like dumb Neanderthals who club first ask questions later.

(Or Armed Police who shoot first ask questions later.)
