I'm quite happy if we get something close enough or better than the 4070 for less money, i think we will.

RX 7700: 100%, $479.
RTX 4070: 106%, $599.
RX 7800: 118%, $549.

Honestly i think that's right, the 4070 is the only one out of all the 4000 series cards that isn't ludicrously priced, its the most expensive AMD can make those two cards without being basically the same price to performance ratio.

They’ll be DOA and those prices though.
Yes, but don't forget AMD's masterstroke, 4D chess marketing strategy:

Launch about 5% below Nvidia.
Get very poor launch day reviews*, then a few months later do the kind of discounts we only ever see from the green team when they are just about to announce their next gen.

*added bonus if some minor bug robs launch day reviews of 5-10% of the potential performance.

Interestingly the Graphics Time Spy score on the 3070 is 13,622.
The 6700XT is 11,970

According to TPU at 1440P the 3070 is 12% faster than the 6700XT in games, but 14% faster in Time Spy.

So its about right.

No, sorry, the 4070Ti.

Ah... 12% faster than the 7800 and 46% more expensive, they would have to drop that down to $649 to make sense, $150 cheaper.

Edit: that would also put the 4070 out of joint. So the price of that would have to come down too, and then the 4060Ti 16GB is out of joint..........

AMD could make a right mess of Nvidia's line up if they do this.

Yes... The chain reaction we're hoping for! I said in another post that the release of the 7800 might trigger it. Whether or not it actually happens is a totally different story!

Which means they probably won't do it. AMD's obviously not interested in competing with nvidia.

Given that the 6800XT is £500, I'd pick a £500 7800XT. Maybe a £550 7800XT. But not a £600+ 7800XT. Assuming they don't call it a 7900 and set the price at £700. Or more. The MSRP of the 7900XT is still $900, which is de facto £900 because stuff's always more expensive here. 7900XTX $1000, 7900XT $900, 7900 $750? They won't sell any at that price, but they don't seem to have much interest in selling graphics cards anyway.

I've now decided. I've decided to not decide until I see the price and performance of the 7800XT :)

The 7900XT is available for $749.99, right now, just checked, they are also AIB ones, UK starting at £800 is a UK problem.

There is no 7800XT, at least not in this leak, if ever.... do you mean the leaked 7800?

Is the US price without tax though?

i) I live in the UK, so the UK prices are relevant to me. Unless I can buy in the USA and import it. $750 plus VAT is £690. Which is a lot less than £800. Shipping wouldn't be much. I'm assuming that it's impossible or at least impractical, or else it would be commonplace.
ii) I was talking about MSRP.

The leak was clear in that the naming wasn't fixed. 7800. 7800 16GB. 7800 XT. Could be any of those.

EDIT: It's a replacement for the 6800XT, so I went with it being called the 7800XT.

Yes, but $750 is currently £574.64. Add 20% tax and you get ~£690. Not £800. Tax does not come anywhere close to accounting for the difference in price. Even if the cards were shipped to the USA and then shipped to the UK, the extra shipping costs wouldn't account for the difference in price either.
