Any reason not to get a HTC Desire?

Well, that was a waste of a phone call.

Just called Vodafone to try and get any info.

Guy on the phone knew nothing and said he would probably not know much until the phone was in stock.

He did say that it would be comparable to a Nokia N900 for cost though.

Don't like Apple because while their products look good, they are not the best made.

Also, some of their business practices leave a lot to be desired. Not a fan of the locked down nature of the apps store, for example. Another example is them being able to remove an app off the phone after it has been installed.

As for the other, what is OP? :)

Their products look good and are very well made, You dislike them because they're expensive?

I have no problem with the App store, explain what you mean by "locked down"?

tempted by it, mobilephonesdirect do it for ~£380 payg on vodaphone or ~£440-£445 simfree(also have contract options on voda or t-mobile but I recently went o2 simplicity 12month contract). anyone know if the payg version would be unlocked(as is the case with cpw & it's affiliate sites), or will it be locked and need to be unlocked to be able to use on o2?

I currently have the htc touch hd(original not the 'newer' hd2), have had it for ~15months and recently unlocked it as got it on an orange contract. is the desire about the same/similar size in terms of dimensions (so I can use the leather case I'm currently using on the touch hd. I know in terms of the screen size the desire is 0.1inch smaller, 3.7inch vs 3.8inch)?

Great, others do (like me). As for locked down, they're restricting what applications can do (nothing even slightly sexual) and the App Store is the only way to get applications on your phone without jailbreaking it. Those problems are certainly enough for me not to want to have an iPhone again (I used to own one but sold it and got an Android handset instead).

Great :rolleyes::D

Did you enjoy sexual games on your iphone before this then?

It seems to me, with the App store. You won't have a problem, unless you start nit picking through things. "restrictive" with Adult material? whatever next.

Price/performance is important to me as I am not made of money. It is more important than style, which means the iPhone does not have an advantage there. The iPhone fails on performance because multitasking in 3rd party apps is not enabled.

A smartphone that doesn't allow multitasking with 3rd party apps is a broken smartphone. I like to read on Opera. I wouldn't be able to on the iPhone because every time I did something else on it the phone would shut down Opera and I would have to go find my place/webpage again.

That's poor design, and its a poor design that they deliberately put there because Apple knows best.

I do envy the style with which Apple do things, but the iPhone doesn't do what I want it to do due to Apple's decision to remove a feature that other smartphones have had for years.

RE: Price, isn't the Iphone cheaper then other smart phones?

If I'm having a phone call, I can get on to the net and check something while I'm on the phone with the person. If I then close the browser, I won't have to find it again, it will be there when I next open the browser.

You can also have tabbs, so different pages open.

I can listen to music while I use the phone, I can have a converstaion while doing other things? Is this not multitasking?

Do you know that Apple could have (and may have actually done) destroyed people's businesses when they decided to remove numerous applications from their store without consultation or warning? Do you care?

Also, they revoked the permissions of stuff like Google Voice, which had nothing to do sex and everything to do with market control and money.

What is it to me or you? I mean, I use the App store and I've not noticed anything wrong with it, removing "Adult" content or making it only available to 18+ was always going to happen.

Other companies kill people's businesses all the time? Does this annoy you as much as Apple? :p
