Anyone non-panic buying?

Care to elaborate on how that is the case. As I understand it nothing about this issue is related to Brexit.

The sweeping catastrophe that some see leaving the EU to be has now affected the climate has it? <LOL>

Lol, Brexit has angered the gods of weather
The bots are out quick today!

Brexit has made it much harder for other countries to trade with us. There’s so much more red tape and cost involved in bringing goods here that the countries diversify and go elsewhere where it’s easier to trade. Like the EU. With poor weather, everyone needs more from North African countries. If you’re a tomato exporter in Morocco, are you going to sell your product into a market that’s easy to do trade with (EU) or a market that isn’t (UK)?

Not to mention the massive energy costs in the uk, and the poor response from our government by not Supporting the growers like European governments have done. Something something state aid…

The shortage in goods has been brought about by bad weather, but since there is a shortage and producers in the EU have a choice to sell to companies within the single market or to a 3rd country which requires customs paperwork, which are they going to choose?

So no, Brexit hasn't caused the production shortage, but like with a lot of things it has made that shortage that bit worse for us.

Everything that is happening here is happening around the globe.
Brexit is an excuse for many.
This country has crappy governments since 1997.

Several posters have made weak arguments about trade barriers. I fail to see how when we already having existing routes for trade this is actually an issue it sounds like obfuscation. Several of the news repotrs suggest that the actual issue is to do with contracting processes of Uk supermarkets versus EU ones. We insist on season long contracts and they do monthly pricing. Thus when demand exceeds supply they can more rapidly increase the contract price and secure the limited resource. We don't do monthly pricing and are thus outbid. Not a Brexit issue.

When you've got a hammer every problem looks like a nail. There's an analogy there somewhere.

our supermarket has a shortage of hammers

eg.
In December, The Grocer reported that only half of apple packs in major UK supermarkets were British in the peak of British apple season.
The growers group has also asked for support from the government such as removing the limit on seasonal worker numbers, removing the wage premium linked to the Seasonal Worker scheme, adding grower businesses to the Energy Business Relief scheme vulnerable list, and supporting the development of renewables.
This was echoed by an NFU spokesman who said, “We need the primary production of energy intensive crops to be recognised under the Energy and Trade Intensive Industries scheme; longer term certainty on the seasonal worker scheme; and a greater level of investment into the sector to drive productivity”.

Oh really....?

You fanatics are really that invested that you can’t accept Brexit, for the reasons I and others have said (namely trade barriers) may have made a bad situation worse. Sure it’s weather related but as I’ve said, trade barriers due to Brexit have made things worse.

Even when presented with an article about the exact same issue inside the EU you just resort to calling people fanatics? Also a mention of the dutch greenhouses not being heated, funny because in the brexit thread people are saying that is only happening in the UK.

Just been to Sainsburys, no shortage or restrictions here.

I actually bet that's true of 90% of branches and that it's all business as usual, but the MSM and Remoners want to make is a big deal as possible for clicks and political point scoring.

I don't have any issues in all my local supermarkets, huge Tesco's and Sainsbury's and a local Lidl, all fine.

Again, Brexit isn’t the only issue but it’s making it worse.

The media use a photo of the most depleted supermarket produce section, duping the unintelligent folks to panic buy.

We can visualise empty shelves etc without the need of a photo.

I've known about this for a few weeks, same with eggs, but it's just temporary. Once the UK season kicks in, it'll be fine.
Eggs are a bit different.

Bird flu, cost of energy in barns, price of feed. Lots of factors here.

My girls are laying well but I've noticed the price of thier feed has gone up a lot.

Well given that Morocco is not in the EU and the trade barriers between the EU and UK are due to the EU's obsession with clipboards and regulations your post doesn't really add up lol.

Morocco does paperwork with the EU -> gets access to 27 countries.
Morocco does paperwork with the UK -> gets access to 3 countries.

It isn't difficult math as to where to focus attention.
