Anyone Using an Asus DSL-AC68U

Can anyone tell me how to get detailed stats? Is it through Telnet? If so, I may need a step by step guide :o

From the Asus Gui go to administration and hit the system tab and
click the enable telnet button and then hit apply.

You then need to use a telnet client like putty to telnet to the router.
Once you get a login prompt use your normal router login.

When you are logged in

ls -l /tmp/adsl will show you the files of interest.

cat /tmp/adsl/info_adsl.txt will show you the interesting info like
attenuation / errors / interleave depth etc.

Perfect thank you !!

Is that quite a lot of FEC errors? 32,000 in 4hrs? Maybe I should put on the ESNP? Do I have to manually adjust my SNR target to switch it on as it is quite low?

Looks to me like you have a pretty clean connection.
You have had no crc errors and your interleave depth is still at 1 meaning
you haven't been DLM'd and are still on fastpath which I would expect since
you have only had the connection up 4 hours.
I had very similar stats to you after about 4 hours last wednesday night and
got DLM'd early thursday morning.
Take a look tomorrow morning and see if things still look OK.

An hours gaming gave me some CRC errors. See below.

Any idea why my max attainable is about 83Mb but my actually line profile is only 70Mb?

fastpath returned this morning to my line but in the 6 hours it has been connected this time i have the following CRCs:-

CRC Down - 215
CRC Up - 15

This is probably acceptable but as my previous setup didn't afford me this view i just want to understand it lol

Feeling fed up.

Well I seem to be having problems with DLNA.

My connected USB HDD was working and I could view and play all my films on my samsung smart TV.

Now it only shows the first few films.

I have tried formatting the drive and copying the files back. I have tried resetting the router. On my laptop I can see all the films in the mapped network drive. I can see them on my android devices.

I can add one film at a time and then I can see the film in the tv's menu.

Has anyone else had this problem ?

Worked it out. It is the current firmware. I downgraded to previous firmware and problem solved.

I'm tempted to downgrade to the previous firmware too. Which one did you put on? The 2187 firmware? It seems the latest is a bit of a backwards step.

If your SNR or attenuation is fluctuating its unlikely to help, typically on ANY device that has that affect on a connection things will be OK... UNTIL it drops below a given figure (which will vary line to line) DLM will then kick in and reduce your speed. This WILL HAPPEN sooner or later if SNR is not stable and consistant. All the issues with the device i can almost guarantee are going to return to many a users line in the next 3(ish) months. It will be summer then and the nice last mile of copper will have its molecules all excited and expand from the heat. Much like many people experienced issues throughout the winter and the copper being cold and contracting. DLM is going to have a field day with this device again shortly, at the moment temps are fairly consistant throughout the day and evening which makes copper happy, unfortunatley the winter ans summer months in this country temps are not stable with one summer day being 30 degress and the next being 15 and chucking down with rain (same with winter one day a nice 15 degrees reasonably sunny day the next 3 foot of snow and -5 degrees).

Does anyone know the safest settings on the router to reduce the risk of dlm kicking in ?

There are none you picked the wrong device if you expect anything stable.

Very valid points there actually bitsnbobs. I never even considered the seasonal changes actually.
Even though I have played for this unit already and had it running a few days, I'm considering passing it on already. Its always on the back of my mind that its a bit shakey at the best of times. I keep watching the D6400 thread on kitz so may try that soon. Probably a much better purchase than one of these new going by the thoughts on there. I've still to see any official reviews by the big forums/tech reporters though.

Just connected this back up after it sitting unplugged for a while, latest fimrware, factory reset, ESNP set to stable, all other settings are default current stat list:

On BT Infinity 2, will see how she goes

I got DLM'd at 4am Sunday morning after 5 days interleaved and am now back on fastpath
with download 75 mbs and upload of 19 mbs increased from 70/18.
The only change I made on the original setup when I installed the router with lastest FW
was to set ESNP to stable.
So far so good.

Thats what im waiting for along with more user opinions on how it performs in the long term before i consider it.

Had loaded that firmware.

My speed still dropped.

Tried the settings you stated.

Sadly dont think this router likes my line at all.

Have taken it back now and using my trusty fritzbox
