Well I accidently purchased a D6400 that has a months return policy of 'as best as it can be' so that sounds reasonable to me.
Oooo did you have a Asus previously or not (sorry i can not remember) if you did then...
Does SNR fluctuate on the Netgear like the Asus?
Does the Netgear stats make mention if you are or are not G.INP'd (was always fuzzy at best on the Asus)?
Any improvement to speed within a 48 hour period over the Asus?
Changes to amount of interleaving applied?
Ping times compared to the Asus?
So much more but those are a start
I'm in Norway until tomorrow night. Its due to arrive Saturday so will post a set if stats from each device. I got a second hand dsl-ac68u from a friend and had it a week. On the hg612 it was stable with a solid snr and good sync for my line. After hooking up the Asus I have a fluctuating SBR between 4 and 7db. I've also lost 4.5mb sync using the Asus. I'll post up both sets of stats and see how we go. Anything else you want me to check just put up a list and I'll get to it.
I am testing a Netgear D6400 on my line at the moment and yes it supports G.INP and states it does in dslstats32W-5.5 program, also after 24 hours of using it DLM kicked in and it retrained and I got 3ms better pings, Interleave Depth dropped from 16/8 to 8/4, I did not think line could get any better so it is strange indeed.
SNR does not seem to fluctuate at least not by hardly anything.
So far am tempted to give the ASUS to a friend of mine but he is on ADSL2 and so far most people seem to give the ASUS a bad review on ADSL2, anybody had good results on ADSL2 with the ASUS?
Keep the Asus, disable DHCP, set its IP to one different to the Netgear (IE if the netgear is 198.168.1.1 set the Asus to 198.168.1.2) connect it with a LAN cable back to the Netgear and if the Asus has a bridge mode you instantly have a very powerful wifi extender + a 4 port switch One upstairs and one downstairs. Thats what i do with old routers which would otherwise not be used
Worked it out. It is the current firmware. I downgraded to previous firmware and problem solved.
I see there is a new Linksys unit coming out that has the modem part built into the power supply unit. Not sure what Linksys are like or on what chip they use. I did hear broadcom.
My d6400 has arrived. So expect initial stats tomorrow. I'll give it a week and then two of stability and update further. Im hoping I've got a weeks worth of stability on the asus for comparison.
Yeah I actually used to do that with old Netgear D6300 till I took it to Ukraine and gave it to a friend. Also used an ASUS DSL-N55U like that as the DSL part of it sucked ass, but now have a nice Linksys 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch upstairs with a Netgear WAC120 Wireless AC Access Point and 2 PC's attacked.
Downstairs with the Netgear D6400 got my Windows 2012R2 Server next to Sofa, got a Samsung BD-F7500 3D Ultra HD Smart Blu-ray/DVD Player networked up, also got OWL networked up, this is what the Solar panels connect to etc. Could connect the Sony TV also but would be pointless as the Samsung Player does a much better job.
All in all I am very happy with the Netgear D6400, will definitely keep it, the ASUS although good at first has started to go downhill, as more people connected in our neighbourhood and as they are building a new estate of houses behind us it has started to fluctuate wildly and does not seem to have coped with the burst noise very well at all.
So unsure whether to give to my friend the ASUS DSL-AC68U or give him my spare Linksys X3500, he is right next to the exchange and on Talk Talk ADSL2. The linksys was definitely more reliable and better with ADSL2, I suppose I could give him both and set the linksys up as a pure modem and the ASUS as a pure router )).

I believe this is it. I'm browsing on my phone so could be wrong. I'll double check when I get on a computer. The DSL modem is built into the PSU.

Edit: pretty sure that's it.

Expensive and slow according to the reviews.
Id give him the X3500 if you use wifi as that is only an AC750 device, if you do not use wifi then both will probably be equal or as near as in a wired network, whichever he gets thats a nice little free gift of £70 and up worth of gear
