Anyone Using an Asus DSL-AC68U

As posted earlier if I had my time again I'd have gone for the the RT-68U and saved myself a good few quid and a LAN port. So I basically agree.

Mine (DSL-AC68U) is running perfectly - but with an OR modem - and will do for the foreseeable future. I've more or less resigned myself to it now, but will keep tabs on progress with firmware and settings.

My gut feeling would be that the issues are firmware/settings related rather than hardware, but looking at the reviews on the DSL-N68U equivalent (which is older) I wouldn't be holding my breath for a "proper" fix from Asus. I have a support ticket out with them and will post back if they respond.

If anyone is considering this as an all-in-one replacement for the OR modem and a router, I'd hold off.

Yes I am doing exactly the same after 3 different router settings changes via Asus it still cut off every day 1 -5 times.

Back with the Openreach modem on it's been fine and the speed has also increased from around 38mbps to 51mbps download.

Righto, with an iPhone 6, what speed (Mbps) should I expect to see over wifi ac with a DSL-ac68u?

Currently getting about 280Mbps. As I understand it, the max speed would be 1300Mbps over AC, but as the iPhone is only a 1x1 stream(?) wouldn't the theoretical maximum be 1300/3=433ish?

Or am I talking nonsense?

Yeah I think 433 is the most you would get single stream. My S4 is single stream and that's the most I ever get. Currently showing 390 from the DSL-AC68U - first time I've checked it. Not played with channels or anything, may have a tinker and the weekend. Certainly rangle and stability on wifi seem spot on - will keep an eye on it.

I've had the DSL-AC68U for 9 days now and the longest I've stayed connected to BT Infinity 2 service continually is 4hrs then it went back to it's usual routine of disconnecting every 5-10 minutes. ASUS support at first seemed to be a uncoordinated affair with several agents telling me to tweak the SNR etc to no avail. Currently I'm back on the HH5 which rarely drops the connection.

Only today day 9 have I been provided with tools to capture information through Telnet. I'll give them until Monday and then its back in its box heading for PC World as unfit for purpose.

I already had aticket open with Asus - they came back to me today asking for details about the ISP etc. Have provided them, problem being I can't give them DSL logs (which they asked for) as I'm not using their vdsl modem. Been advised my ticket has been passed to their R&D department. I'll post back if anything comes from it. Catch 22 as I can't afford an unreliable connection - its used for work, so don't want to go back to the Asus VDSL functionality until I've got a bit more confidence. I might give it another go when the next firmware appears, if there's anything to suggest a "fix". The frequency of firmware updates indicates to me they got this to market too soon.

....don't know but its a lot of money if you don't need the VDSL functionality. You could argue it's future-proofed but there's no guarantee that the VDSL issues will get resolved. I checked with my supplier today, and I can still return it for a refund - decided that's what I'll do, replacing with the RT-AC87U.

For ADSL I have purchased TP-Link Archer D7 for a couple of people, and they are delighted with them. If you did upgrade to FTTC it can work with a BT modem too.

http://192.168.1.1 and kept getting this website (Reset router five times) unable to login in website. Try it on other pc, same thing! What a stupid way to start off! I try on ethernet port and try on wifi. No success.

How can I set up if this page stay like this?

I captured logs for Asus on 4 occasions covering 72hrs worth. The advice that came back was to tweak the VDSL settings ie. SNR 9db or try 12db etc.
The problem is the DLM has final say (BT engineer confirmed this), so if you set 9db it will connected but in 15 mins time the DLM say's NO -Not gonna happen and then starts re-syncing you to get the 6db IT wants.
None of the setting's Asus tried worked. The line would constantly get slower and slower due to the constant re-sync's.
Asus suggested it must be a line issue in the end, BT engineer says no fault!

I gave up with the device in the end and returned it. I bought the Asus RT-AC87U connected to the BT ECI Modem.
So far it been connected for 11 days without issue. Only re-sync's been early morning to remove interleaving and raise connected speeds to PRE Asus DSL-AC68U levels that trashed the line stats.

Laters...

I give up return the DSL-AC68U. It's pile of rubbish hardware and cannot access webpage at all. Other routers, Openreach Modem can access website. Why can't the **** Asus work?

That problem with the page - I think that is related to browser settings. Either clearing the browser cache (CTRL-SHIFT-DEL), or adjusting the browser settings to re-load the page with every visit to site should work. In IE: Tools/Internet Options/General/Settings/"Every Time I Visit The Webpage".

The other experiences are like mine, really wanted to do away with the modem+router combination and replace with a single box, but its not to be.

I did try all this. I give up. It's going back. I believe it faulty hardware won't let me access webpage!

Mine went back today after its replacement (RT-AC87U - using with a BT OpenReach modem) turned up. Everything running AOK. As you would expect menus very similar, a bit more flexibility on Guest Networks, Wifi range and speed very good (they were with the DSL-AC68U). Don't like the form-factor of the AC87U much (the USB 3.0 port is on the front), a pain if you have an HDD permanently connected. You also get another (USB 2.0) port, and 4 antennas.

one tip for you guys about this router im using the DSL_ac68u version.

if you use a antivirus with a firewall, make sure you unblock 192.168.1.1 or you will have UI freezing issues/lockups ect and the only way to fix it is refresh the page but all those issues are gone once you add the routers domain ip 192.168.1.1 to your exclusion lists.

Don't care really. Asus is full of crap!

My DSL-N66U is working fine on VDSL. Does it share the same chipset as the AC68U?... Did some tweaks to begin with but found it worked well mostly on default. Getting around 73/18 on speedtest.
