Anyone Using an Asus DSL-AC68U

So guys, after reading the last 64 pages (many of which are void by the fact newer firmware updates were released), is the DSL-AC68U a worthwhile purchase for a stable fibre VDSL connection from Zen, or should I stick with the BT supplied modem and WAN enabled N55U? Fibre is being installed next week! Ideally wanted a single box solution, and have loved the N55U, but want stability!

At the moment I would be looking at keeping the two separates for now. At least starting off on this route you know what your line is capable of. Once it has been stable for a while then look at getting a single box.

Keep in mind some issues people are seeing using ECI modems on Huawei cabinets (Due to G.INP going live and modem not updating). My speed was stuck on 67Mb (6 weeks) with high pings until I changed to a Huawei modem. Within two days I'm now syncing a tad under 75Mb.

I assume you have ESNP set to 'stable' in the DSL settings? When I did that on mine it fixed the abnormal FEC errors as well as the abnormal CRC errors on non-G.INP fastpath. It looks like you have G.INP however, but setting ESNP to stable, if it's not already, should fix that.

Thanks for the reply, its set at default so I will change it to stable now.

Blimey, is it to early to say the word - 'progress'

I never said progress but it has been stable. Due to workmen putting a new shower in the power kept going off so it was finally back on again last night so I don't have a lot of data to work with yet. I will see how it goes but as I am doing more work to the house I don't think i will get a constant connection till next week.

I do have a few issues with the new UI as it is now a lot harder to get in to Parental controls and time allowance. more clicks are needed. I need to see about some of the added functionality on the QOS as well.

Really? Is it still that bad at operating a simple fibre FTTC connection!

Going by what I've been reading online, there is a vast improvement but still not enough reports of it making positive effects to DLM to warrant a purchase in my eyes. Especially with yours being a new install, I would be trying to get the best out of it in case DLM decides that this is only what its capable of due to you using a third party unit. At least if it seems a half decent connection for a bit and you do go ahead with another router, it should know where your safe limit is.

got my first disconnect on the new firmware.. nothing changed for adsl users then sigh.

roughly every 24 hours it will hangup and reconnect.

ADSL users with issues

I am not sure if will helps you because at my end, i have fixed rate connection ... however testing it, gave me better snr stability

Disable Bit Swap for ADSL & enable Bit Swap for VDSL
Disable SRA (some claiming is not supported by dslam anyway)
to me seems works better and the snr is still able to recover and go back up

IF this not helps disable SRA & BOTH Bit Swap (adsl/vdsl)

worth to try it if you still have issues :) & if you do try let us know

yeap :) disable bit swap for adsl & keep only bit swap for vdsl

Slightly off topic but I don't think I've ever been on fastpath with fibre. The lowest my pings have ever been is now at 25ms. Same as fast path on ADSL. From my hg612 stats it shows interleaved on (16) I think it was.

I tried changing the bit swap but still seeing a huge amount of FEC down errors.

Any other suggestions?

Something really weird going on with this router/firmware
something fishy has happened in the past 3 firmwares.. unsure what one is causing it.

for some reason i am seeing no positive DLM changing what so ever
also here is something fishy, if i enable default settings im on path mode interlaced.
if i change a few settings in the router it will change from interlaced to fastpath.

settings are : esnp or g.imp thats causing it.
also with those 2 settings off as in esnp @default and gimp @disabled

i can go for 18+ days and no changes to my connection what so ever.

on past firmwares i remember seeing changes within less than a week.

i really am getting fustrated now cause im seeing no changing. and i am on a great fiber connection for weeks and weeks i was at fastpath with 79999 sync and 19999 sync
now i cant get above 66998 sync and 19999 sync. with interleaved.

i think this firmware is or previous ones are adding hardware interleaving or hiding it and making the dlm not change from a stable uptime....

just some thoughts i have been having lately with this router/firmwares.

Is it worth reverting to the standard modem until you see a positive change then go from there? It does sound odd that's for sure. Some people have reported possible changes, others remain the same and others also still reporting large error rates.
I was tempted to buy one today to experiment with but every time I look at the thread for new posts I get put off.

Up to 39999 now , and i think that's not far off the last one? The router must be performing pretty well to have the dlm making such rapid improvements. Finally glad i stuck with it , it almost went on ebay many times !!

worth to try it if you still have issues :) & if you do try let us know

still getting resets, always near 24 hour mark

tried tinkering with every settings, always same result. never had problem on old modem
