AOC G2460PF

ok Will try that now, BF4 has a built in limiter.

PCM2 I have tried your ICC profiles. I like the newest one the best, They all give colours a bit more punch compared to stock.

I did however bump brightness up to 10 to make it look right to me. I left contrast at 50 though. Should I have adjusted this?

Thanks for the feedback Finners. Yup, brightness is according to your preference and contrast should be left at default. Glad it improves things for you. :)

As to the tearing during FreeSync, that's most peculiar. Are you running 'Fullscreen' rather than 'Borderless' or ' Windowed' on BF4? And how do you have VSync configured in both CCC and the game itself? I know it's a silly question, but if FreeSync enabled in CCC as well?

PCM, I am only getting tearing at below 50FPS, remove the FPS limit and the tearing goes and its very smooth. How do you test for tearing at lower ranges? I'm sure its more scientific then mine but doesn't explain why I am seeing it

V-sync is off everywhere.

Roger the freesync range should go as low as 30Hz on this screen.

Hopefully others can try the windmill test pattern and get similar results so I know its not my eyes. I tried to film it on my phone but it exaggerates the effect to much.

so after testing the new profile, with a brightness of 10 and contrast of 50. the colours look at the best in the newer profile. i have started testing games and so far i have these done:
alien isolation - appears to work in game but needs applying in windows after exiting
arma 3 - works in menus but not in the actual game, causes grass to become blue and some other colour issues
ac 4 black flag - appears to work in game but needs applying in windows after exiting
banished - appears to work
batman arkham knight - appears to work in game but needs applying in windows after exiting
bf3 - does not appear to work
bf4 - appears to work in game but needs applying in windows after exiting
blood bowl 2 - appears to work
cod 2 - appears to work
cod black ops 2 - appears to work in game but needs applying in windows after exiting
cod waw - appears to work
call to arms - appears to work in game but needs applying in windows after exiting

I haven't really tested FreeSync enough to confirm exactly what the lower range is. But my initial testing suggested it did go down to 30Hz as AOC confirmed (to me earlier and also here). I haven't actually tested this with VSync disabled yet as I despise tearing. I actually don't have a scientific method to test this either way, it's really just a case of comparing with and without. Framerate limiters are probably a good way, but I tend to find using the 'Resolution Scale' feature and adjusting MSAA on BF4 a good way to test frame rate ranges and fluctuations.

Thanks for this Henson, very useful and quite happy to see that it works on the majority of your titles. Arma3 is one of those ones that should work with the profile in Borderless but not normal Fullscreen. Then of course FreeSync is disabled! Also, did you use the 'DisplayProfile' utility to help easily re-activate the profile if Windows resets on game exit?

Ah with freesync and v-sync on at 40FPS in the test pattern in the windmill demo its super smooth as is battlefield but the input lag is terrible.

Turning v-sync off is when the tearing starts. Could you try the same test on the windmill? demo if you have time

Turn on freesync with v-sync off, test pattern and locked 40FPS.

i did yes the tools make it easier, i have a massive library and i plan on going through them all, but this is going to take some time.
a few of the titles listed above, cause display corruption with freesync, however alt tabbing most most cases cures it.
maybe this will be fixed in later driver revisions.
i have to say i am actually impressed with the colours after that profile you made. granted my dell is 7 years older but there is no comparison, the aoc wins hands down.
i hope to see the overdrive issue resolved and a driver update to fix these freesync niggles but overall i am happy with the monitor.
may have to look into something that will automate activating the profiles, should be doable i imagine with a bit of programming.

I'm not sure if that's just the Windmill demo malfunctioning to be honest, it's not 'supposed' to run below 55fps AFAIK. Not sure why it shouldn't though. I find BF4 a more useful test to be honest as that is far more dynamic and runs fairly predictably at a huge range of frame rates. I'll try this out some more though.

Its the same in BF4 though, The chopper blades at 40FPS tear, as does panning around quickly

EDIT*

I know a couple of people have mentioned it but light fading into dark areas and completely dark areas are very blocky for me to. Just switched back to my old monitor which was a cheap TN at the time I brought it and its much better on that one. What could be causing that?

Its like the screen cannot handle gradients

are you using mantle or dx11?

The panel and all screens using it have this issue. Its native gamma does not represent near-black shades correctly and they look lighter than they should. This can't be fully corrected for in the ICC profile, although you can counteract it further by opting for a central gamma that is particularly high. You'll notice this effect disappears if you lower your head relative to the screen (although most things disappear - haha) and that it is generally more noticeable towards the bottom of the screen than further up.

I will comment on the FreeSync issue as you're entirely correct. It actually seems that this cuts out below 50fps. If VSync is on without triple buffering, the frame rate jumps to 25fps at any frame rate below 50fps. And that obvious tearing and juddering is there with VSync disabled, stuttering with VSync and TB. So yeah, I'm not sure if it's a driver issue or what. AOC are adamant that the lower FS range is 30Hz, but they also seem to think the overdrive option shouldn't be greyed out. And it's nothing to do with Mantle, either.

Driver installed here also,

Thanks for clarifying PCM, Glad its not something I have set-up wrong my end.

Now do I return it and wait for the true range to be clarified or wait it out. 60+FPS freesyncd gaming is very nice. Looking through the options I cant see anyway a firmware update could be applied to this monitor if that what is needed to fix the issues.

Well I'm sure you'd enjoy it a lot more if they fix the overdrive being greyed out. Having experience variable refresh rate models that do go down to 30Hz/30fps, I really feel that at such low frame rates the technology can only do so much. Let this be a reminder that your frame rate is low and should be higher, as it would provide a better gaming experience by all accounts. :p

The product manager was really shocked by the overdrive thing, as it isn't his intention that the user should have no control over the overdrive feature when running at >60Hz. He was so shocked he has actually ordered in a unit to see for himself. He could've just taken my word for it, but these Dutch people... They like to see things for themselves! ;)

Its a shame as I literally brought this monitor to see how it behaves at 30-60FPS with the intention of jumping to a 1440P IPS freesync monitor.

Still on the fence if to return it or not as 60+FPS with no tearing is very nice.

The AOC rep has some explaining to do.
