I remember when there was actually surprise and delight at these events.

Really? I think a lot of people have rose tinted glasses when they think about past launches.

What has been amazing in the past 4 years of iphones? The original and the next few after that, yes, but phone technology isn't advancing that much each year now.

I personally think this could be a very good update if you ignore the fact the case is staying the same for the most part. Apparently it will do video at 60fps @ 4k which is pretty impressive. Water resistant for most contact with water, dual camera on plus model, larger base storage, much faster processor, more ram on plus. There is plenty of stuff to be excited about and this is just the stuff we know. There will be a few surprises on the day I'm sure.

Almost every iPhone released has focused on the design, so it's understandable that people will see the same (see: similar) design as the last 2 models and be a bit let down.

Oh I completely understand that. I would like a new design as well but honestly, I love the current one. Having played with a samsung s7 it felt ok but the design wasn't very nice and it didn't feel premium. The curved edges on the display were nasty and the physical button at the bottom felt cheap.

If the design was updated I think people would be super excited about this phone.

Yeah I think they finally nailed the design with the 6 so no major change needed. Would be nice if they increased the thickness slightly so the back was flush with the camera hump (increase battery)

I don't know how anyone can think the design is 'nailed' when you put it next to an S7 Edge? The bezels are colossal and it's unwieldy one handed, it could be considerably smaller and sleeker without reducing screen size.

Its looks way nicer than the S7 edge in my opinion. I am totally happy with the side bezels on the iphone and the top and bottom are the same height and the most they could shave off the bottom in about 2-3mm as the touchID button is there. At the top they could take off about 1cm but then it would be a different height to the bottom.

Different people have different ideas about what looks nice. If everyone had good taste the Nissan Juke wouldn't exist.

Got a 5s at the mo, will see what the 7 brings.

I'm not expecting anything earth shattering, probably just a slight evolution in the phone itself, A10, slightly better battery life, the "big sells" are likely to be the dual camera thing and iOS 10, I cant see them bringing out more than one new feature because thats just not how Apple do things, minor spec increase plus 2 sells is generally how its done, one will be the dual camera, the other iOS10, as for the headphone jack, doesnt bother me as long as they have headphones in the box...

There was also rumours of an iPhone 7Pro, I suspect if that was true then the "features" from that one are more likely to be in the 7s, so things like the dual camera and wireless charging are more likely to appear there than with the 7...

I think the "pro" rumours have been largely dismissed as crap. They already have the SE, normal and plus so adding another to that lineup would be silly. You would end up over a 2 years cycle with something like.

7SE
7
7 Plus
7 Plus pro
7S
7S Plus
7S Plus Pro

I think they will just include it on all 7+ handsets.

On a sidenote, I have previously bought the handset sim free from apple and then just had a monthly contract but I am wondering if that is the cheapest way.

They stuck my monthly contract up by a bit so its now around £27/month. I can get a better one for around £20/month now but I calculated it based on the 7+ being the same cost as the 6s+ is now and:

£20/month contract * 24 = £480
iphone 7+ = £620

Total of £1100 or £45.83 / month over those 24 months.

Thats quite an expensive contract and for that price you can a good contract for the 6s. What are people planning to do / are doing.

I enjoy the keynotes from Apple, I simply like the way they do it.

However I've already made my upgrade to the Note 7 this year so I will be looking at the iPhone 8 for me next year. From the 6 to the 7 there isn't that much which has changed. Just small bits here and there.

Fingers crossed they rock the boat for their special year.

I pay £18pm for my sim free contract incl. Spotify. I would buy Spotify anyway so value it at £8pm. It probably "costs" me £25pm in depreciation over 1y to own the iPhone, so to me it is a lot cheaper to go SIM free.

Downside is I have to keep the phone in perfect nick so that it retains a high resale, which I have been able to do so far through a few gens. In a way I cover this via AppleCare+ (which I have priced in that 25)

For anyone else upgrading, recycling sites (use sellmymobile.com for comparison) are offering £440 for the iPhone 6S Plus 64GB, which is an awesome price. I did mine today as the quote is locked in for 10 days so I can see what's happening tomorrow, if you wait until tomorrow no doubt the price offered will plummet when everyone starts doing it

I've got £380 locked in for 14 days on my iPhone 6s 64gb. I planning to swap to iPhone 7 plus.
