Honestly I don't need the WiFi capability of the box, I do need a 2.5g WAN and at least one 2.5g LAN port though. The router goes a 2.5g POE++ switch with a unifi 7 AP which handles the WiFi.

I would troubleshoot rather than buying hardware randomly. You said you have a Fritzbox so go back to that and then you'll know if it's the Asus router or not.

It's been fine up till this morning. Come home to no internet (I haven't changed the firmware back yet) but now it's been off for an hour. Router log is Timeout waiting for PADO packets over and over every couple of mins

ONT is fine

Unplugged it for 5 mins and powered back on, has not solved the issue

EDIT, so left the house with the router still not working and came back after about 2 hours, and it just seemed to have got back on its feet after erring for hours according to log. So have installed the stock firmware and done a factory reset (router based, not a hard reset)
